Real debate, not a conga line of nodders, as on the ABC. Another example of the Left want you to shut up while conservatives want to debate and convince. Bolt versus Kenny on the Voice. As Bolt says, you could never see such a debate on the ABC.
Well I'll have a look at Bolt-Kenny, and point out their errors in due course. But on this issue I expect an ABC audience is closer to majority Oz opinion than Sky News, because the Lab/Green/Ind majority in parliament no doubt reflects the Oz electorate's opinion re the voice.
.......
so ..listening up to 2.33: Kenny has put the argument FOR a voice very well, let's see Bolt's objections:
Up to 3.03: Bolt is
talking over Kenny(!) who is still supporting the voice, but now Kenny is going to identify what he considers are "sensible" abo voices like Price and Dodson....
Continuing: far out, I didn't think I would see Kenny demand to be heard, to explain there are complex reasons for aboriginal disadvantage. Bolt is pushing his old line that aboriginality is a fluid concept , which is correct, but as Kenny rightly observes the gap relating to abos is a real phenomenon regardless of definitions of aboriginality.
7.36: Bolt is asking where is the funding; and saying there is no guarantee the voice will not morph into more than an advisory voice. (The debate on ozpolitic has covered all these issues)
Continuing..you call this debate? Bolt is talking over Kenny. That doesn't happen on Q&A (mostly).
So Bolt doesn't trust a high court judge reading of the constitution...Bolt is worried by point 3 which says
parliament can authorize such spending as it sees fit,but Kenny notes this is under point 2 which says 'parliament has the power to legislate for abos'.
Ah... so Bolt is saying Albo wants this voice to have the power to authorize spending on behalf of abos.
I believe that is wrong, the proposed advisory voice doesn't have that power, which is also Kenny' opinion.
Appears the main reason for the Kenny-Bolt debate was to belittle the ABC: Bolt concludes with "
why doesn't the ABC have debates like this"?
Admittedly the ABC does have a very centrist or rather
mainstream stance on many issues, which can be a pain in the ass; though I heard a vigorous defense of China's response to Perlosi's Taiwan visit on RN this morning...most un-mainstream....
