Let us return to that basic lack of comparison - Scotland had a Parliament which was resurrected.... the Indigenous had NO parliament and were a disparate group of wandering groups comprising over a thousand dialects and tribal languages.  They persist with that to this day - our locals are not welcome only a few miles north, capisce?

There was NO Aboriginal nation.... thus no enforced Anschluss...... they are the vast minority at 3.3%, unlike Scots in Scotland...

So I ask again - what reason is there for a shadow government - which - if you read what I posted - the final report on the Aboriginal Anschluss - THEIR report from THEIR academics and self-appointed with the connivance of the Australian government spokespersons (you with me?) ....says clearly that they expect representative groups at all levels of government and an influence at all levels = a Shadow Government.

What is your justification for that?

I hate to sink you - but those are a list of the opinions and viewpoints posted in the first two pages - I was waiting for you dickheads to play the old 'shoot the messenger'....

No real opinions then?

You reckon then that Abos are not recognised in the Constitution as Australians and as such with full rights since 1967?

Any chance you could address the issue?

Aboriginal identity will never be predicated on being Australian any more than Catalan and Basque identity will be predicated on being Spanish; Any more than being Tyrolean will be predicated on being Italian or Austrian. Any more than being Tibetan, Inner Mongolian or East Turkmenistani will be predicated on being Chinese.

And there are multitudes of other examples from every continent in the world.

Only the people of a dominant culture imagine a unity of identity predicated on their dominant culture, with other indigenous or established sub-cultures necessarily subordinate to it; as the Romans, the Vatican, the Muslims, the Mongols, the Spanish, the Portuguese, the British, the Russians, the Han Chinese et al, in their their turn, did.

Scottish independence is a prime example of this immutable fact; otherwise there would be no independence movement.

Which is why identity politics is bunk.  Both the dominant and the revolting - they are BOTH wrong because they are both starting from the same premise.

In Scotland Scottish identity is as dominant as English identity in England. And there isn't a lot between them, truth be told. Just like with the Russians and Ukrainians - but to THEM it's worth dying for.

One more argument for a universalising civilisation.... Like ... er... our own.

Our own? But, old boy, you like Danish, remember?

Anybody for identity politics?

At this point - only a few days into the argument over a Voice - I have to say that you yay-sayers are building a fine case for the nation as a whole to say NO...... exposing the very soft underbelly of this entire 'issue' as artificially created by a few to benefit a few.

N.B.  I'm on DNA predominantly Scottish.... always loved me poipes! ...

Of course not. You don't put it in your signature and call yourself Sore End, while you smugly rail against foreigners.

Perhaps you'd like to take a Dane yabbying, ya?

Valium will help that best.

The NZ model (permanent aboriginal seats in Parliament) will be the most likely outcome.

No, you're just a boring old fool who has too high a regard for his own drivel; but you're amusing, for now.

There is no suggestion of a shadow government, nor any challenge to parliamentary sovereignty; that's just you channelling Joh Bjelke-Petersen.

3.3% of permanent seats in Parliament is fewer than they now hold...

Some of you need to get out of that PC world you were raised in under our protection and learn to think.....

Why would any government offer permanent seats to a minority so small it hardly reaches that of Muslims?

Permanent seats is a totally separate issue and would require an entirely new referendum.

You're gasping for air, young one....

You're missing the point.

Aboriginal people can also hold non-Aboriginal seats where they would have a duty to represent all people within their electorate, but there will also be permanent aboriginal seats whose electors will be aboriginal only - the NZ model.

Indigenous people have a unique status in Australia; Muslims do not.

No. A shadow government implies sovereignty. You're confusing guaranteed representation with government.

It resembles the Republican referendum in that nothing has been spelled out. And then there is the "treaty." Who will sign it on the part of the indigenous, and can they be of mixed blood?

So now you imagine that an elected by a small group body has no 'sovereignty' over all other electors, and that therefore their views have no value unless accepted in the wider range of views?

And that special elected seats by a tiny group only, somehow does not represent sovereignty of that small and specified group?

Good thinking....

So the absolute sovereignty of a few selected seats (not elected) does not imply any sovereignty of a specific social group who never had a concept of sovereignty of a small and specified group?

How does that gel with the DEMAND for a special voice at every level of government, and then the election of the top rung by those special voices only, as being anything but a demand for sovereignty of groups that never had it?

The final report was that there should be bodies appointed by a small minority at every level of government, and that the 'top rung' should be voted on ONLY by those appointed to those positions by that small minority, and that they should then have 'advisory' power to the Parliament as a whole - this to be enshrined in the Constitution - unlike any other lobby group (such as miners, white supremacists, Lebos, Eye-ties, Grecos etc) ....

And now you moot the idea that totally separate but decidedly unequal seats be handed as a right to that small minority, and that they not just be an elected by a tiny minority advisory group, but have guaranteed seats?

Clearly in mooting that idea of totally separate and voted on by a tiny minority seats, you have betrayed the entire thrust of this specious non-argument about Aboriginal shadow government.

And you deliberately overlook the fact that the final report (solution for Australia) clearly demands representation at every level of government without going through the tortuous route of actually being elected by the majority of all voters in the seat they wish to hold.

Do you even begin to understand our form of democracy?
