In the 1970s I held 2000 Western Mining Corp shares. I would make around $200 per 1000 WMC shares selling call options—MUCH more than the dividends I was receiving from them.

The last options expiring late 1978 I knew would be exercised and I let that happen—the money went towards my trip to Europe.

If you don’t get greedy and know the market options provide a way to get extra income from your shares. You can always close the option if you really want to keep the shares: monitor the market!
