I forget what the story was about, seeing that it has been 38 years since I last heard it read to me. But, 1969 was a very different era in Australia than it is today. 95% of Australians were caucasian. I do not see how The Very Hungry Caterpillar could be an insult to the way Australians of modern day are represented. The theme of the story is about "change". Changing for the the better, it seems.

Edit: I have just watched someone read the book on youtube. What an absolute ridiculous reason to be "researching" for problems in a children's book. A lack of diversity? I would be sure that the caterpillars of the world do not give a damn.

I read it to my granddaughter about 3 weeks ago. Good read for a 4YO no problem with it at all. Then she showed me her favourite scary YouTube videos on my tablet.

Well - that's nonsense... there is far more power in a stable and civilised society than in a despotic one. It's a superpower with a rag-tag army, a rag-tag navy, and a rag-tag air force, an inability to project real force except against weaker and non-warlike nations, and it only exists due to the lack of desire of the ROTW to stamp it out, but to continue trading for profit (for some).

NEVER mistake an unwillingness to fight for an inability to fight...... there is a huge difference.

Putin and Xi are the wakeup calls the ROTW needs.... when the chups were shown to be down, Nu Zulland came into the side of its mates..... Jacinda bared her teeth to the Chinese invaders to the north east with their dollar diplomacy and cash supremacism and control.

Those Pacific nations must be laughing into the palm of their hand over the silliness of China in handing them millions.. when the chups are down, they will side with those of us they know they can trust. and who have saved them from Oriental despotism in the past.
