That is a very good book, actually.
Written in German, set in France. The English translation reads as if had been translated from French. Suskind captured the French sensibilities of his subject - scent, sensory delight, beauty, life, death- and the translator conveys the frenchness into English. Masterful and seductive.

I have probably known about 20 homosexuals in my entire adult life. Two of them were heavily involved in fitness. The remainder had a variety of physicality and were mainly fit and healthy.

A gay person that I don't know personally is Ian Roberts. He spent a few decades as a physically muscular person. Would you exempt him, too, because you don't believe muscular men to be homosexual?

I wrote my response to Bobby before I saw your post. Interesting to note that the more high profile celebrity that came out as gay, Ian Roberts, seems to not interest Bobby as an example of a physically strong homosexual person.

I looked up the youtube video of the fight between Roberts and Jack. Garry Jack must have done something to get that kind of treatment.

I tried to sneak up on my sister one night to give her a scare. But, I had been in the habit of shaving, using cologne and body spray for a few years. Being about 6 metres from my sister, I heard my sister say "(UnSubRocky), I can smell your aftershave". And that was after I had gotten home from my night out. The smell just lingered.

Ian Roberts, Australia’s first professional rugby league player to come out as gay, has in an emotional interview with The Daily Telegraph laid bare the consequences of his historic decision made in 1995.

It has been revealed, shortly after Robert’s announcement, the former Rabbitohs, Sea Eagles and Cowboys front-rower found himself the victim of a violent assault. He was dragged, kicked and abused while unconscious on the concrete while walking along the Sydney Harbour foreshore. “That moment changed me,” Roberts now recalls.

Reflecting on the same period of time in 1995, Roberts graphically recalls when he was assaulted by a spectator who punched Roberts in the face – calling him a “faggot” – as Sea Eagles players left the field at halftime during a match between Manly and St George at an oval in Kogarah in Southern Sydney.
