"The high-end scenarios RCP8.5 or SSP5-8.5 have recently been argued to be implausible to unfold (e.g.,  Hausfather and Peters, 2020; see

Chapter 4.2.2

"Most multi-model studies assuming rapid economic growth/business-as-usual scenarios (A2,A1B, RCP8.5) show an increase in future woody biomass and areas of woody cover towards the end of the 21st century in the temperate regions (Boit et al., 2016; Nabuurs et al., 2017) and in tropical forests in East Africa (Ross et al., 2021) but decrease in the remaining tropical regions (Anadón et al., 2014; Boit et al., 2016; Lyra et al., 2017; Nabuurs et al., 2017; Maia et al., 2020). Have you noticed it only goes up when we have an El Nino?  Now unless you are convinced Las Nino's are not natural (and you would need to provide citations) then you have no basis for it being CO2.

The heat was especially repressive in Europe last summer. The continent experienced its warmest summer on record, and Sicily broke the European record for hottest recorded temperature when it reached 119.8 degrees Fahrenheit (though the findings have not yet been confirmed by the World Meteorological Organization).

"The World Meteorological Organization is seeking to verify a reported temperature of 48.8°C (119.8°F) in Sicily, Italy, on 11 August 2021 and to establish whether this is a new temperature record for continental Europe.

The observation was made by a weather station administered by a regional agro-meteorological network rather than Italy’s national meteorological service. It occurred during an intense heatwave in Italy, Spain and parts of North Africa. "

An ever-warming planet
The latest numbers follow the planet's long-term warming trend. The average temperature in 2020 tied with that from 2016 to be the hottest year on record, according to NASA.

"Despite last year's average not being quite as high as the previous year and the European and American agencies differing slightly on where it falls in the larger trend, whether one year is hotter than the other does not really matter. What does is the long-term trend, and this is unambiguously rising at a concerning rate".

You can only say the science is disputed by some, accepted by others (unlike the science of planetary motion).

So some scientists accept the hypothesis or theory - if that's what you want to call it; you cannot claim there is no proof of  AGW CO2, only that YOU disagree with the evidence and related theory.

Unfortunately for you, Oz has recently been  pretty ugly for a large proportion of its horrified victims of various climate related catastrophes - of which some scientists warned us - since the last election.

Hence all those climate independents elected last night...ouch.

Meanwhile the filthy fossil industry is ravaging the health of Indians;  the ash left after burning coal in power plants is turning the countryside into a poisoned desert, so that companies can avoid paying the clean up costs.....  all to produce 'cheap' electricity.

Digging In: Why powering a green future means more mines

“It's absolutely ironic. But to save the planet, we are going to need more mines.”  Government geoscientist

Around Australia new mining operations are being established and old sites, shuttered decades ago, are being brought back to life.  These miners aren’t digging for coal or gold, they’re hunting for other lucrative commodities – known as critical minerals.

“Critical minerals (are) everything you use for electric vehicles, for transport, for manufacturing.  We're really at the start of what could be a new mining boom.”  Minerals lobbyist

If you own a mobile phone, if you power your home with renewable energy or drive an electric vehicle, then these minerals are already playing a key part in your life.

And they will play a vital role in all our futures.

But there is a hidden cost?

“We have to decide as a country. How valuable is a place and is it worth risking for mining?”  Research scientist

On Monday Four Corners investigates the new critical minerals mining boom and finds Australia is in the box seat to exploit a surge in worldwide demand.

“Australia is still the luckiest country. Last century we were the luckiest because we had all the coal and a huge amount of natural gas… what we know the future needs is things that Australia also has in spades.”  US energy policy adviser

From lithium mines in WA and the NT, to cobalt operations in NSW and tin mining in Tasmania, these critical minerals are not just making major profits, they’re playing a part in the super power rivalry between America and China.

“China has always known the value of critical minerals.  We are moving into a period now of geopolitical competition, everybody is looking for leverage. The Chinese are quite explicit about that.”  China analyst

With China dominating the control and supply of these critical minerals, many nations are keeping a close eye on Australia’s mining operations in the hope of breaking China’s dominance.

“We have met with heads of state, senior cabinet officials and global businesses…They all want to break this stranglehold.”  Mining CEO

But environmentalists are concerned that hard fought environmental protections are being put at risk in this new type of gold rush.

“It's not saving the planet. That's ridiculous. That is green spin, green extractivism, coming out of the mining industry.” Environment activist

This fascinating film reveals the tensions, and the big decisions Australia will have to make to enable the production of these vital minerals without inflicting further harm on our increasingly fragile environment.

“It's a confounding issue for the environmental movement. There's absolutely no doubt that we have to move to mining of critical minerals, if we are going to address the climate crisis... At the same time, we need to be absolutely sure that we are not repeating the mistakes of the past.” Environment lawyer

Digging In, reported by Angus Grigg, goes to air on Monday 9th May at 8.30pm. It is replayed on Tuesday 10th May at 11.00pm and Wednesday 11th at 10am. It can also be seen on ABC NEWS channel on Saturday at 8.10pm AEST, ABC iview and at abc.net.au/4corners.

The mineral that makes touch screens work is incredibly rare.  So there's some truth to this.  But it's the right crying we need to go back to caves, not the left

Exactly. It is disputed by a lot but accepted by a lot. And that is not a recipe doing any thing. The earth is not going to have runaway warming.

Show us the PROOF that it is due to CO2. There isn't any. Climate models are not proof of anything.

Even Zeke Hausfather is coming to that conclusion. The IPCC insists on an ensemble of climate models. Only one model can be correct.

"One study suggests Arctic rainfall will become dominant in the 2060s, decades earlier than expected. Another claims air pollution from forest fires in the western United States could triple by 2100. A third says a mass ocean extinction could arrive in just a few centuries.

All three studies, published in the past year, rely on projections of the future produced by some of the world’s next-generation climate models. But even the modelmakers acknowledge that many of these models have a glaring problem: predicting a future that gets too hot too fast. Although modelmakers are adapting to this reality, researchers who use the model projections to gauge the impacts of climate change have yet to follow suit. That has resulted in a parade of “faster than expected” results that threatens to undermine the credibility of climate science, some researchers fear.

Scientists need to get much choosier in how they use model results, a group of climate scientists argues in a commentary published today in Nature. Researchers should no longer simply use the average of all the climate model projections, which can result in global temperatures by 2100 up to 0.7°C warmer than an estimate from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). “We need to use a slightly different approach,” says Zeke Hausfather, climate research lead at payment services company Stripe and lead author of the commentary. “We must move away from the naïve idea of model democracy.” Instead, he and his colleagues call for a model meritocracy, prioritizing, at times, results from models known to have more realistic warming rates."

The closest model is the Russian on (INM-CM5) which shows about 1.8C per doubling of CO2.

Now all you have to do is prove it was CO2 what done it. Theory says yes. But the earth is not a greenhouse. A greenhouse doesn't have a wind tunnel through it.

Apparently before the end of the LIA, when temperatures started rising, it was all natural and everything since is the evil CO2. No natural variation at all. Natural variation has never been measured. Without that you can't calculate what CO2 has or hasn't done.

Looking at that, despite greater CO2, there has been no increase in temperature since January 2013.

Those two propositions are contradictory. Try again.

You are a denier of AGW caused by CO2 emissions.

Quote:
Ah yes averaging. Put one leg in a bucket of boiling water and the other in a bucket of ice. On average you are comfortable.  No one lives in an average temperature. Roll Eyes

But the planet (inc atmosphere) is a single whole....currently with an average increasing  temp, according to "lots of/some climate scientists".

Quote:
No dear. It is you who doesn't understand. IF CO2 is the control knob, as hypothesised, then temperature should also rise during Los Ninas.

Still wrong. CO2 is only the "knob' which humans can control in our lifetimes. There are other factors  determining climate.

Quote:
Exactly. It is disputed by a lot but accepted by a lot. And that is not a recipe doing any thing. The earth is not going to have runaway warming.

So YOU say, other scientists disagree (confirming climate science is infinitely more complex than planetary-motion  science)

Quote:
Show us the PROOF that it is due to CO2. There isn't any. Climate models are not proof of anything.

Some "lots of scientists"  you mentioned above DO theorize an AGW-CO2 effect.

(Not surprising a Russian researcher would produce that model). But given the complexity, consensus proof is difficult.

You left out the 10 year drought which led to the massive 2019 fire burning the length of the GDR, with smoke seeping into Sydney's homes with doors and windows shut, for a week - never before experienced. The non-scientific population is inclined to follow those scientists who do see AGW-CO2.

Quote:
According to the WMO climate is an average of 30 years not 4.

And according to many scientists, average  temp (which you clearly don't understand),  has been trending upward for a century, due to man-made CO2.

Those two propositions are contradictory. Try again.

Nope. They are not mutually exclusive. One does not exclude the other. Roll Eyes

You are a denier of AGW caused by CO2 emissions.

Nope. I don't know. That is allowed. Currently. Winkthegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
But the planet (inc atmosphere) is a single whole..

Nope. Approximately 2/3 is water. Some of the land is sand, some rock, some vegetated, some not. They all have differing temperature profiles.

Still wrong. CO2 is only the "knob' which humans can control in our lifetimes. There are other factors  determining climate.

So CO2 is not the control knob. And yet you deny any natural variation since the industrial revolution. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

So YOU say, other scientists disagree (confirming climate science is infinitely more complex than planetary-motion  science)

You do not? Oh dear. Roll Eyes

thegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
Some "lots of scientists"  you mentioned above DO theorize an AGW-CO2 effect.

Theories aren't facts.

"“It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.”  - Richard Feynman

(Not surprising a Russian researcher would produce that model). But given the complexity, consensus proof is difficult.

Consensus is about politics not science. But then the IPCC is political. InterGOVERNMENTAL Panel on Climate Change.

You left out the 10 year drought which led to the massive 2019 fire burning the length of the GDR, with smoke seeping into Sydney's homes with doors and windows shut, for a week - never before experienced.

Which part had never before been experienced? Smoke in Sydney? Grin Grin Grin Grin

Bushfires down the GDR? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

You really should do some research. Roll Eyes

thegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
And according to many scientists, average  temp (which you clearly don't understand),  has been trending upward for a century, due to man-made CO2.

See there you go again denying natural variation.

https://climate.nasa.gov/internal_resources/2337

So according to your theory it must have been a reduction in CO2 after WW2 that caused cooling. Roll Eyes

thegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
They COULD achieve 60% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, if Labor come on board.

COULD they? What is the mechanism by which that is achieved?

thegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
Ok...correction: poisoned local areas surrounding coal plants and ash disposal sites.

You mean like the poisoning of land in China mining neodymium?

But it is good you realise your alarmist language. Roll Eyes.
.thegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
And in the last three months, India has banned wheat exports because of a crippling heatwave which has destroyed crops.

Another weather event. Crops have failed many times over the years. And now what is not banned but export limited. DO keep up.

10-15%? "We'll all be rooned." Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

thegreatdivide wrote on May 23rd, 2022 at 2:43pm:
refuted above.

You have refuted nothing. A BIG
0

BTW - What 10 year drought? 2017 -2019 is only 2 years. Gilding the lily again. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
