Chris Bailey Dies
Apr 11th, 2022 at 5:04pm

Sad news, again.

Chris Bailey, lead singer of The Saints and 'co-creator of punk', dies

I'm a big fan of Bailey, and Ed Kuepper, and saw them play live many times.

Last time I saw Chris he was playing in a tiny little tavern in Fremantle - The Stoned Crow - and it was just him singing solo with an acoustic guitar.

It was years and years ago.

It was one of his best performances I'd ever seen.

He was only 65   Cry

RIP Chris Bailey

There was a period where I believed the Saints were Australia's best band.

They were awesome.

They used to come to Perth all the time, and I went to every single gig.  Never missed a show.

The best ones I can remember were at the Herdsman Hotel (a very small Perth suburban pub) - that was 35 years ago, I guess.

Between sets Chris would come over to the bar and drink with the locals - he was a very down to earth, cool guy.

That solo show I saw at the Stoned Crow was one of the most memorable performances I've ever seen, and I've seen everyone.

He was very underrated.

Same with Ed Kuepper - a very underrated singer, guitarist, and songwriter.

"Just like fire would" is a popular song up here. But, I had no idea who sang it.

Springsteen done a great version of it. In fact Chris made the original sound a bit like Springsteen I thought.

Oh yeah.  I'd forgotten all about that.

It was a good version.
