Maybe not.

But, when you have the media now saying things like "post pandemic" and apply that to a population who appear to be mostly mindless sheep who don't seem to be able to think any further than their next Bali holiday or overseas cruise (or how much toilet paper and other 'essentials' they can hoard and can't even wear a mask properly or at all) then it's easy to see why a lot of people now believe the pandemic is over.

Which is just what the governments (Federal and State) want everyone to believe and now just go back to being obedient hard working consumers and forget about Covid.

Besides, it's mainly the 'unproductive' members of society, the elderly and those with serious health issues who are dying and that seems to be all good as far as governments are concerned with all the money saved on pensions and health care, etc.

Sadly, it's taken a major pandemic to wake a lot of people up and realize what a bunch of selfish pr*cks we have running this country (both government and business).

But, having said all that I honestly believe governments did have our welfare in mind at the start of the pandemic just over 2 years ago and I'm guessing they were hoping COVID-19 would 'go away' after 6 months or a year just like the original SARS did nearly 20 years ago.

When it finally became apparent that Covid wasn't going away anytime soon and with them pinning all of their hopes on the vaccines which were not as effective as they were supposed to be, especially with Omicron, then they decided it was time to give up and 'let it rip' regardless of the number of deaths. Just like governments have done in the UK and other places overseas.

Wish I could find a post I made 2 years ago where I predicted this would happen - governments would make an effort for a while to protect their populations from Covid but they would eventually just give up. The only thing that surprises me is that it's taken them 2 years to do it.

Fair enough.

Something that was proposed 2 years ago was that, if the virus ultimately could not be controlled by eradication through isolation or vaccines, then the world's economy would not withstand indefinite disconnection beyond those 2 years without the severe risk of economic collapse.

In that scenario, you may not have died of covid, you might die from starvation, destitution or lack of pharmaceuticals required to keep other disorders from killing you (to name 3 ways); at the very least we would be living with a 30's-era depression.

Wonder how high the death toll needs to be before people start waking up to the fact that Covid hasn't "gone away" despite what the politicians, big business and right wing media want us to believe?

Having paid attention to the Rockhampton figures of 5000+ covid infections since December 2021, we have had at least 5 people in Central Queensland die *with* the covid virus. I do not know the circumstances of each of these deceased. However, I bet pre-existing conditions have a lot to do with their passing.

7000 deaths in Australia in the last 2 years is not a considerable amount of deaths, considering that 160,000+ people die in Australia for various kinds of reasons. We need not act in a panicked way and shut businesses down, just because you are so germaphobic, you can't even stand someone sneezing.

incorrect.

most people want to get back to their businesses and being productive.
they want to get back to raising strong confident competant kids.

they want to make the country productive so we can pay for the care demanded by the selfish retirees like yourself. the sheep who always need to be looked after and who view obediance to mandates and lockdowns as the new virtuous social currency.

dont thank us for being productive risk takers. just enjoy your cruise and your pokies and your trip to bali and your new hip courtesy of the noble contributor .

Thank you, Donald.

Doesn't stop people dying, of course.

Did you know WA has reported 10 Covid deaths in the past 24 hours which is 1 more than we had for the entire 2 years prior to the border reopening 2 months ago?

Another
39
deaths reported so far today just for New South Wales and Victoria.

https://covidlive.com.au/

And, here's some food for thought:

Are we at a point where Australians tolerate people dying from COVID-19?

(I would say absolutely - tragically).

Quote:
We seem to be at the point in this pandemic where people die every day from COVID-19 … and we're OK with that.

Just last week, on average, 39 Australians died each day after catching the virus.

Compare that to the start of the pandemic when we were aghast at the thought of a single case, let alone a death.

The change is troubling to veteran epidemiologist Professor Mike Toole.

"We seem to have closed our eyes to the suffering and the deaths that are still occurring due to Omicron, so I think it's bordering on irresponsible," Professor Toole said.

Quote:
For example, just last week numerous videos circulated in the United States showing airline passengers cheering as the announcement was made that a federal judge had voided the mask mandate.

This is despite mask-wearing being one of the most effective ways of containing super-spreader events, according to epidemiologists like Saskia Popescu, who looked at the dropping of the mandate in despair.

Quote:
There have been similar scenes here in Australia as COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed.

Witness the jubilation at the lifting of the dancing ban in December, 2020 or the joyous airport reunions as the Queensland border opened to domestic hotspots in time for Christmas, 2021.

By that point Queensland had still only recorded seven COVID-related deaths.

We all knew what was coming and yet we did it anyway.

The eighth death was reported on January 7 and by yesterday the total number of deaths of people with COVID-19 in the state had reached 869.

We are being 'conditioned' into accepting all of these Covid deaths in the same way we were 'conditioned' to accept flu deaths every year.

We had a welcome absence of flu deaths for the past 2 years due to Covid border closures and restrictions but it's back again and no attempts are being made to stop the spread, just like with Covid now.

And... it just gets better and better...

‘Much stronger’ Covid variants detected in Australia

Quote:
Authorities have discovered two new Covid variants in Australia, with one expert labelling them “much stronger” than the current dominant strain.

The shock finding came when a traveller from South Africa to NSW was detected to have the BA. 4 sub-variant of Omicron – a first known case of its kind in Australia.

Victorian testing facilities also detected the BA. 2.12.1 Omicron strain in Melbourne wastewater.

Quote:
“What we know about BA. 4 is that it appears to escape the immune system a bit better than BA. 2, so that means that people who’ve already been infected can be reinfected more easily, and people who are vaccinated can be infected more easily,” he told 7 News.

“This comes just at the stage we’re removing all our public health measures. That’s the bad news.”

But, don't expect any acknowledgement or action from our useless politicians. At least not until after the Federal election and even then I doubt anything will be done because this variant and others will have spread all around Australia by the time the election is over.

Oh, here's a thought for the day:

https://twitter.com/KatePri14608408/status/1520203662106460160

Quote:
Darwinism has performed it's role in targeting the sick, elderly, poor & vulnerable, & our politicians have allowed it. Society has allowed it.

Now it's coming for the stupid & they sit in every echelon of society.

Wise words, Kate. It's going to be a busy time for Covid in the coming months because there's an awful lot of stupid for it to run through in this country (and overseas).

Queensland's numbers still haven't appeared on Covid Live but they've had another 5 deaths bringing the national total to
52
.

https://twitter.com/qldhealth/status/1520206302584131595

Must be getting close to the "excess deaths" threshold where they stop reporting the daily numbers except for when they exceed the threshold (which will probably be 100 deaths a day).

Must also be getting close to the "front page news threshold" for newspapers all around the country, shouldn't it?
