No one with any credibility is claiming covid has "gone away".
Maybe not.
But, when you have the media now saying things like "post pandemic" and apply that to a population who appear to be mostly mindless sheep who don't seem to be able to think any further than their next Bali holiday or overseas cruise (or how much toilet paper and other 'essentials' they can hoard and can't even wear a mask properly or at all) then it's easy to see why a lot of people now believe the pandemic is over.
Which is just what the governments (Federal and State) want everyone to believe and now just go back to being obedient hard working consumers and forget about Covid.
Besides, it's mainly the 'unproductive' members of society, the elderly and those with serious health issues who are dying and that seems to be all good as far as governments are concerned with all the money saved on pensions and health care, etc.
Sadly, it's taken a major pandemic to wake a lot of people up and realize what a bunch of selfish pr*cks we have running this country (both government and business).
But, having said all that I honestly believe governments did have our welfare in mind at the start of the pandemic just over 2 years ago and I'm guessing they were hoping COVID-19 would 'go away' after 6 months or a year just like the original SARS did nearly 20 years ago.
When it finally became apparent that Covid wasn't going away anytime soon and with them pinning all of their hopes on the vaccines which were not as effective as they were supposed to be, especially with Omicron, then they decided it was time to give up and 'let it rip' regardless of the number of deaths. Just like governments have done in the UK and other places overseas.
Wish I could find a post I made 2 years ago where I predicted this would happen - governments would make an effort for a while to protect their populations from Covid but they would eventually just give up. The only thing that surprises me is that it's taken them 2 years to do it.
