From what I've been seeing and hearing since "National Cabinet" decided to remove our last Covid protections on Friday it looks like the ALP (and the unions who are supposed to be providing safe workplaces for their members) will be having a BIG membership drive shortly because of all the resignations that are now happening.

A few people are even thinking about joining the ALP and then immediately resigning just to make their anger known. I'm even thinking of doing that myself.

Apparently quite a few MP's around Australia received a lot of phone calls and emails from many very angry people on Friday - rumour is that some of these MP's eventually took their phones off the hook but I strongly suspect they were just being overwhelmed with the volume of calls.

After Friday I (and many others) do not want to hear another word from whingeing coffee shop owners when their former customers bring their own coffees to work or any more whingeing business CEO's when their staff (and customers) are constantly off sick.

As for Anthony Albanese - enjoy your one term Prime Ministership (and government).

Albo's acceptance speech: "No one left behind because we should always look after the disadvantaged and the vulnerable. But also no one held back, because we should always support aspiration and opportunity. That is what my government will do."

Unless you're vulnerable to COVID, of course.

lol.  Grin

If you go to the Federal ALP website to join it directs you to your State ALP website.

$25 a year? Do I get $5 off for my WA Seniors Card?

I wouldn't pay them 25 cents to join.

And, speaking of resignations...

4 teacher friends just handed in their resignations . Nurses and healthcare are leaving their jobs in droves. No one wants to die for this crappy economy.

Can't say I blame them.

hi carl

albo has declared the pandemic over.

i can test positive and go to work for an afternoon shift if i want , according to albo, after october 14.

thats how much albo and the chief health officer care about it.

now, beleive the science and be obedient and stop being an outlier

Really?

Any chance we might be able to see his medical qualifications?

About as much chance of that happening as there is of seeing the "medical advice" for scrapping Covid isolation completely.

Chief Health (Medical)) Officer?

Oh, him. I think Albo (and Morrison previously) must keep him stashed away in a long drawer somewhere in Parliament House and pull him out when needed.

I'd rather take medical advice from this Paul Kelly.

Hi, aqua.

Perhaps you could answer this question for Louisa?

Quote:
Hey @AlboMP
and @MarkMcGowanMP
- how does it pan out if you’re due to take a meeting with someone on day 3 of a covid infection? Are they welcome to sit unmasked in a closed office with you for a couple of hours?

Because she'll never get an answer from those two, of course.

As an aside - isn't it funny how not one single Australian politician seems to have the slightest idea how social media is supposed to work?

It is meant to be "social" as in people are supposed to reply to each another in much the same way as forums work but you NEVER see any replies whatsoever from the pollies. I wonder why?  Roll Eyes

That didn't answer the question.

Since the pollies from the Prime Minister down are telling us the pandemic is over then they shouldn't have a problem with someone who is infected (whether they're aware of it or not) walking into their offices and sitting down for a meeting.

Maskless, of course.

Should they?

no problem.

pollies should lead by example and mix with the people maskless.
king charles mixed with literally thousands of people who were shaking his hand and embracing him at a recent event

if a 70 king is happy to do that, our pollies should do that.

certainly the super fit tony abbott would be fine.

clive palmer less so

Hey, aqua.

It's time the Federal and State governments dropped the pretence that shortening the Covid isolation period from 7 to 5 days (and now removing it altogether) was based on medical advice.

https://twitter.com/MrRexPatrick/status/1577432405245591552

Quote:
An #FOI response has confirmed that National Cabinet’s 31 Aug decision to reduce #COVID19Aus isolation periods for positive cases from seven to five days was done so without advice from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee.

And, yes... this is really concerning.

Wonder if any of our pollies are going to take this seriously?

Rising cases of variants BQ.1 and XBB could make COVID drugs all but useless, study finds

COVID variants are evolving ways around vaccines and treatments, fueling deadly conditions for a winter surge

This will be a summer surge here, of course.

Quote:
As colder weather sets in, public health experts are keeping a close eye on COVID-19 variants that could spell doom and gloom this winter, just like omicron did last year. Yet these nascent variants that are rapidly spreading abroad have an evil twist that omicron lacked: an ability to evade the drugs that humans have developed to fight the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The two subvariants of particular concern are known as BQ.1 and BQ.1.1, both off-shoots of the omicron variant BA.5 (but with several key changes.) Indeed, they seem able to evade many of the tools we have to defend against it, which could trigger a wave of hospitalizations, disabling victims with long COVID or death.

Also worrying are two other strains: one called BA.2.75.2, which seems to be spreading quickly in Singapore, India and regions of Europe;  and XBB, which some research suggests is the most antibody-evasive strain tested, almost on the level of the SARS-CoV-1 virus (known then simply as "SARS") that caused an outbreak in 2003. This could make the new vaccines relatively useless (but still better than nothing.) Moreover, an outbreak caused by one of these highly drug- and antibody-resistant variants could be much worse due to many world governments performing far less testing and reduced public health surveillance compared to 2020 and 2021.

Talk about sleepwalking into a disaster which is what Australia is doing right now. I'll be sitting back (in my KN95 mask, of course) waiting for the inevitable "no-one could have forseen this" comments - which will probably be heard by Christmas.

I wonder what damage Covid and the vaccines have done to our community?
Covid-19 attacks every organ in the body -
heart, liver, kidneys, brain etc

Anyone who has had Covid could have permanent damage
and that means half of all people.
Then - how much damage have the vaccines caused?
It's been a catastrophe and it was all caused by mad scientists
using gain of function to make a virus much worse than nature would have made it.
