I was watching an interview with a captured Russian soldier and he was lucky to get pulled out of burning tank where others were killed.
He was given a phone to call his mum and it was emotional. She was thanking Ukrainians medics for treating his injuries.
The soldier is so young… and they are not told much… and found out on Russian TV they saying how no one is dying and everything is going well.

Kept in the dark and believing what the “idiot box” tells them.

Sad really.

It was quoted “all’s fair in love and war” ….
because “The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war.”

Been in the news etc—refugees from Ukraine, arms/aid into Ukraine. Russian missiles hit not far from Polish border as russia tried to stop the flows of arms and refugees.

Oh, I am not blind to the fact that European neighbouring countries have assisted in various ways to help Ukraine in their emergency. But, the pointless symbolism of throwing paint over an ambassador from Russia is not going to help the situation. You do not escalate a situation during a conflict by giving the Russians reason to continue. That is propaganda the Russians can use against the Poles, no matter how petty it may seem.

And given that the Russian ambassador was there to honour the people that died in WW2, it seems very disrespectful to survivors of Poland's own military conflict in WW2. Wait for a different time to make your protest. Not during a war memorial.

More than 20 years ago, we had a situation in Indonesia where Australian business people and tourists from Australia were getting harassed by Indonesian thugs going around wanting to bash and rob the Australians, simply for being Australian. The issue was to do with the East Timorese independence vote. Problems arose that there was an alleged Australian military landing in East Timor before the United Nations had given Australia permission to conduct a military peacekeeping mission in East Timor. Reported in the media some time later, people recounted how Australians caught up in Jakarta traffic were approached by people asking the drivers if they were Australian. There would have been issues if the drivers admitted to being Australian at the time.

Picking on a Russian ambassador attending a war memorial, in which Poland was overwhelmed by the Nazis in WW2, you have to wonder about the timing and place for making a physical protest. There is only so much that the Russian ambassador could do. It is better that the Poles continue to help Ukrainian people in their quest for peace and stability in the region. Not to pick on Russians living in Poland.

Yep. And maybe he could have written a strongly worded letter of resignation and then taken refuge in Poland. But, the reality is that he would be putting his life, his career, and the lives of his friends and family in danger if he just up and quit -- no matter how discrete he is with a hypothetical resignation.

He would be dealing with a person like Vladimir Putin who might find it in Russia's interests to silence a defector.
