Well, I am a bit shattered here.
This thread was about how good Toyotas engineering was.

Now, the diesels (which were always suspect) are a proven failure.

And ....... this guy tested the diesel Landcruiser against the Patrol V8 petrol in a tow test.
The petrol was more fuel efficient.

This is before you consider the Toyota is much dearer to buy and much dearer to maintain.

Toyota engineering is still pretty good they have been the top selling cars here and just about everywhere for a while.

I would look a Ford Raptor if they made them in extra cab version. They will bring that out with petrol twin turbo V6 option.

As the old saying goes- " There is nothing quite like a V8" so unlikely to sell SS Torana despite getting absurd offers for it.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

................  I don't think this DPF issue is really Toyota specific these Toyotas have been the top selling vehicles for quite some time so more of them are being reported for this brand which gets ambulance chasing lawyers hopeful of making money involved.

Any diesel with a DPF will have problems if most of the driving is done in 10KPH peak hour traffic crawl along with picking kids up from school and going to shops to get milk. These engines aren't really suitable for short slow speed trips for some reason people think they are.  ...........

yes, I think it is not just the toyota DPFs that are problematic.
This is an Australian guarantee/warrantee legal quirk.
The product sold was not fit for the task.
A guarantee does not legally end at 1 year (or whatever) after purchase.
It is what is reasonable to expect.
eg, if you buy a tv for $150 and it fails after 14 months, that is reasonable.
For $150 you can't expect a lot.

If you buy a TV for $12,000 and it fails after 14 months, that is unreasonable.
For $12,000 you should expect a lot more than 14 months.

Anyone who buys a diesel with DPF for short trips isn't buying a vehicle fit for purpose.

These vehicles need long drives with a bit of a thrashing to activate DPF.

Maybe people should educate themselves about what type of vehicle they should get.

i would say that the guy who did the patrol v landcruiser comparison got a big bribe from nissan because they arent even comparable.

the nissan is a rolling pile of junk and nissan is broke.
same goes for the dodge ram.

the raptor (a beefed up ranger) was quite popular with the local farmers for a while but they are going back to toyotas.

mainly the diesel cruisers.

they arent cheap.

i had an old hilux (2.8litre diesel , non turbo) which my son rolled.
we cut the roof off, put on a roll bar and used it around the farm for years.
iteventually fot a log thru the foot well which was scarey and i got rid of it but still got 3,500 for it as people just love those engines.

its a shame they dont make an old fashioned reliable basic 4wd.

i think , when china finally gets its act together they would do well to roll out something basic.

the subaru brumby was popular with farmers as a cheap basic carry-all.

i dont really want to shell out 100 k for a landcruiser ute to run bales of hay around the joint. (and those little polaris and kawasaki mules arent that durable)
