Here's an interesting Chinese perspective, not indoctrinated by Chinese State propaganda, actually on the ground in Ukraine.

Yes, Jixian Wang is an example of what the ethnic Chinese character could be; the character demonstrated by Hong Kong protesters and the Taiwanese.

When Wang was interviewed he was asked if he was exiled from China, he remarked, 'No, of course not. I could fly back to China today then straight from the airport to jail for life.'

When asked if that bothered him, he replied, 'Of course nobody wants to go to jail, but compared to betraying my Ukrainian friends who would risk their life for me, what is jail compared to my dishonouring them by my betrayal?'

That's what I keep asking you about, and you tap dance around the ice skating rink... by what means do you propose to actually impose this rule of law as designed by the United Nations with or without consent of all nations?

By consensus agreement of all nations.

Note the UNGA (c. all 200 nations) recently passed a resolution demanding UN examination and explanation by the relevant member whenever a  permanent SC member resorts to use of the veto.

This is a first step on the path to recognition by all nations that the veto itself must be eliminated, and along with that step, abandonment of the insane concept of "legal" war, in the age of MAD.

Quote:
Who's going to sign up first?  Russia?  It is the right thing to do, after all... surely Putin wouldn't want to take any territory by force...... it's against the spirit of the Revolution....

It's a pity Trump wasn't a man of vision; I had hopes in 2017 that Trump, who was on good terms with both Xi and Putin, would be able to bang some heads together in the UNSC, given the incredible benefits available for all of them if they could avoid insane and expensive nuclear arms races, under real international law.

But I suppose Trump's main aim all along was to preserve US global hegemony, so he missed an opportunity to go down in history as the first person who enabled the UN to function as a peace keeping institution.

Quote:
Let's go ask him .........  ah - yes - he's preventing Ukraine from taking its own territory by force!!  Of course - how silly of me.......................

Well that's what happens when war is legal; some madmen will always decide why they must take their nations to war.

As for Taiwan: it's part of China, and recognized as such in the UN; which madmen will be the first to initiate a war over Taiwan?
Xi seems willing to accept  'One China 2 systems', will delusional "sovereign rights" democracy ideologues inside and outside Taiwan be responsible for initiating a war?

Well people everywhere disagree with one-another; the CCP is dealing with this reality on its way to creating a prosperous socialist state. The example of the US Capitol riot - fully 30 years after the Tiananmen Square massacre -  only confirms for the CCP  the correctness of their chosen path to achieve the nation's common prosperity.

Couched in blatantly  ideological terms.  Someone  who has his own reasons for reporting on war in another country, reasons which are undoubtedly anti Chinese government, should not expect to be able to return to  foment revolution at home.

This is starting to shape out like an Afghanistan war ver 3.0, which is a sort of repeat of ver 3.0 when the US supported the Talibans.   Except, Ukraine is just next to Russia, so its got some Korean war flavour to it as well.

To me, the Russian plans were very clear from the start.  Shock and awe, if they can take down the capital Kyiv, then it should buy Putin alot of credit at the negotiating table.  But the real war theatre is at the Eastern Front, where the future of the divide between East and West Ukraine will lie.

At this stage, I dont think either side would stop.  For the Russians, they would probably expand west ward a bit more, and at the very least create a land connection between Russia and Crimea.   For the west, they would want to wait and see the economic sanctions bite in to Russia, and see how long the Russians can last economically.

It is a win win situation for the West.  Just put in a few billion dollars worthof arms, the Ukraine will fight for them, to weaken Russia.   And thereby create future opportunity of window to counter China when Russia is weak - likely for decades to come.

The real loser in the war?  The Ukrainian civilians as usual.

That's correct, demonstrating the sheer evil of geo-polictics, typified by that hideous  Pelosi woman voting to make sure the Ukrainians are cannon fodder to save her own  comfortable sorry arse.
