Instead of the current Western paranoia re 'autocracy'.

There is nothing benign about the CCP; there can't be with totalitarian governments by definition.

All power is corruptive so, where the people are not free to expose their apparatchiks for what they are when they commit crimes, there can be no trust.

The mask has been ripped off.

The CCP is an incompetent Maoist monster.

What it can and would do to those it subjugates in China is a clear warning of what it is.

Maybe Putin called the Ukrainian leadership "nutsies" and got mistranslated as saying "Nazis". Either way, he is still in the wrong.

Putin is wrong that Nazis control Ukraine.
Ukraine is controlled by monsters

Even Nazi military didn't use civilians as human shield......at least they didn't use their own civilians....
But how on earth "Ukrainian forces", that's the media's words, published this video showing their soldiers using children as human shield to fight Russians?
Some say Russian military stopped civilians leaving, which is totally illogical. Without civilians, Russian troops will have the advantage to use their fire power freely without worrying to be accused killing civilians by western media. Why didn't they want civilians leaving?

........... Speaking at the Ramstein airbase in southwestern Germany, the US defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, pledged to “help Ukraine win the fight against Russia’s unjust invasion and to build up Ukraine’s defences for tomorrow’s challenges”.

Austin said:

As we see this morning, nations from around the world stand united in our resolve to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s imperial aggression.

Ukraine clearly believes that it can win and so does everyone here. ...............

From an Athos link:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/19/antonio-guterres-urged-to-take-lea...

"The former staff members, including many former UN undersecretaries, urged Guterrez to raise his profile and be prepared to take personal risks to secure peace, saying the UN is facing an existential threat due to the invasion of Ukraine by one of the five permanent members of the security council.

“What we and the broader public want to see, though, is a political UN presence and public engagement, in addition to the UN’s notable humanitarian response to the Ukraine crisis,” the authors said.

What the UN officials don't recognize is that the problem for the UN  is its acceptance of the absurd/insane doctrine of 'legal' war.

If the UN can't reform itself, to outlaw war by (inter alia) getting rid of the UNSC veto,  then what "personal risks" can Gutterez take, to end the war in Ukraine?

It's time we all learnt to accept the rulings of an ICJ to adjudicate in territorial disputes, since the days of empire building are now over: "the acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible" (UN Charter).

That leaves the issue of competing ideologies. What's wrong with a *friendly* competition between one -party, and two (multi) -party states, with rules of the competition adjudicated by said ICJ?

Instead of the current Western paranoia re 'autocracy'.

Why can't you accept that the acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible?

You could do this today. You won't.

Now why is that?

One of Putin's worst miscalculations, apart from the assumption of the tank's supremacy on the battlefield, is that he handed the Allies a golden opportunity to test all kinds of weaponry under real circumstances. He thought that was going to be his little bonus. If Finland joins NATO, he's dumber than he looks right now.

Greater still is his miscalculation that Ukrainians could stare down the entire Russian armed services.

Nothing is more attractive to military blocs than the capacity for a people to successfully defend themselves and maintain high morale. It's almost a guarantee of support.

Ukraine has set its own trajectory not only towards union with Europe, but also towards entry into NATO, being now the most battle-tested nation in Europe.

Given Ukraine will need to be battle-ready for years to come, Ukrainian battle skills will only increase over that time, to the point that they may become one of the most powerful nations in Europe.

This will virtually guarantee Ukraine's entry into the EU and NATO.

Oh ye of little self-awareness and even less insight...

A statement that, under international law  "the acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible",  requires the institutional machinery to prevent such illegal acquisition.   It's called rule of law.

Regardless of what you think (with no insight at all),  or what I think..... even though unlike you I  accept the need for international law, to ensure that  "the acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible".

You obviously have Taiwan in  mind.

Actually in the case of China, 'One Country-Two Systems' is an accepted principle at the UN; and the CCP  would have no problem with a separate political system in China as at present, so long as China's sovereignty over the island is  accepted in international law, in circumstances where war is illegal.

Kiev has to face a big problem of its own

Ukrainians must now have significant military strength in Kiev
because in a panic without records, they distributed +20,000 pieces of automatics
weapons. Even to the convicts they released from prison. Now someone has to defend civilians from
armed gangs who don't think of fighting the Russians.
They are there for everyone who has some property and no weapons.
They can easily declare someone a Russian spy or saboteur and rob or liquidate.
Regular police have no chance against these bandits.

Russia suspending gas supplies to Poland, Bulgaria

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Officials in Poland and Bulgaria said Tuesday that Russia is suspending their countries' natural gas deliveries after they refused to pay for their supplies in Russian rubles.
The governments of the two European Union and NATO members said Russian energy giant Gazprom informed them it was halting the gas supplies starting Wednesday.
The suspensions would be the first since Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month that “unfriendly” foreign buyers would have to pay the state-owned Gazprom in rubles instead of dollars and euros.
Poland’s state gas company, PGNiG, said it was informed by Gazprom that its deliveries through the Yamal-Europe pipeline would stop Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Later, the Bulgarian Energy Ministry said it was notified that Bulgaria's supplies of Russian gas via the TurkStream pipeline would cease on Wednesday as well.
Poland has been a strong supporter of neighboring Ukraine during the Russian invasion. It is a transit point for weapons the United States and other Western nations have provided Ukraine.
The Polish government confirmed this week that it was sending tanks to Ukraine’s army. On Tuesday, it announced a sanctions list targeting 50 Russian oligarchs and companies, including Gazprom.
Europe imports large amounts of Russian natural gas to heat homes, generate electricity and fuel industry. The imports have continued despite the war in Ukraine.
