"This is not a war between Russia and Ukraine, this is not a war between Russia, Europe and America. This is a global, perhaps last, attempt by Western civilization to attack the Russian world, Orthodox ethics and traditional values. There are two ways out of this situation - we will either defend ourselves or we will cease to exist. "

Nikita Mihalkov

Grin Grin

Mihalkov made an excellent and beautiful movie, Burnt by the Sun, in 1994, showing the paranoid, oppressive, destructive mindset of Stalinist Russia and its corrosive effects on normal life.

Putin is recreating that paranoid, oppressive, destructive atmosphere in Russia and Mihalkov claps along???

Was Kennedy reasonably concerned or paranoid during in 1962 Cuban missile crisis in spite of the fact that America has never been conquered by others in the past?
On the other hand, Russia has been attacked and conquered several times in history.

Wow, day 55
The russo–fascists are clearly crap soldiers, partly due to the endemic corruption in the russo military, same will be true of the CCP–PLA.

So, day 56;

Cui bono questions still to be answered:

What's in it for the west to admit Ukraine into NATO? This would likely be a net negative for the west.

What's in it for the west to admit Ukraine into the EU?

More to the point, how much of Ukraine would make a functioning European partner? Would the EU want a Ukraine with significant separatist groups indefinitely active in the east and south? It would be like inheriting a civil war which, ultimately, would require the EU to resolve over decades. Another net negative.

What's in it for the west for Ukraine to remain neutral?

Finlandisation? And yet a neutral Ukraine would continue a permanent dispute with Russia over its eastern territories. This would be a net positive for the EU and the west. It would tether Russia permanently to a territorial dispute that would ultimately limit its capacity to wreak havoc while it internalises and accepts its imperial decline, as all receding empires of history have had to endure.

russia faces a big drop in military age russians in a few years—hence the war in Ukraine now and whatever other expansion plans the russo-fascists have. This has to be done NOW!

Ukraine has put a huge spoke in the russo-fascist wheel.

Psychologically, the Russian troops know they are invaders, even when they think Ukraine is evil. Most would rather go home and get on with their lives. It makes a lot of difference when fighting in defense, and in this case, they are clearly defending their homeland and a democratically elected government which stands for European liberalism. On the other hand, the Russian troops may approve of the big dumb clods that run Russia, but they know they have no say in Government except to say Yes. You cannot say No in Russia and not be fined, imprisoned, or murdered. That is how Putin stays in power. Its pretty much the same in China.

The next decade or two will be fascinating, we will have a clearer view of who is the declining empire in the 21st century......

And then we might be able to outlaw war, as China's changing pragmatic, socialist philosophy triumphs over any imperialist designs which will be seen as obsolete, in a new age of international co-operation maintained by an UNSC without veto (the original plan for the UN).

The military victory is followed by the economic victory of Russia, which will be more painful for America and the dollar. We are entering the era of national currencies and the dollar is going down in history and national currencies will be pegged to gold.
