Soooo... what part did the UNSC veto play in Russia invading Ukraine?

Er... do I really have to spell it out?

Russia invaded Ukraine because it can, given that it possesses a veto over UNSC rulings, which insisted Russia SHOULDN'T do it.

And because war is "legal" under the failed UNSC with its absurd rule-of-law-destroying veto arrangements,  Putin did just that, because in his view the invasion was a liberation operation, not an invasion....amazing that people have different points of view {!!!}.

Quote:
If you want the savagery of war to cease, you must stop supporting those who use it.... I'm not responsible for Russia invading Ukraine and accept no such responsibility... only a free person can make that decision for him or her self.

Given that every "free" individual  serves his own self-interest, rule of law is necessary to avoid chaos, in this case, war. But the veto destroys rule of law.

Quote:
Your nonsensical comment about 'crocodile tears for all the maimed children' is just that - nonsense.

Ok, if you insist. But the mainstream media are certainly milking every hideous image for what it's worth.

And given all the lurid images coming out of Ukraine, that silly bitch von der Leyen is saying she is "proud" of the bravery of the Ukrainians who are "fighting for freedom".

There is a good chance sanctions against Russia will collapse the German economy which relies heavily on Russian gas to power its vast manufacturing industry. Then I wonder how misty-eyed she will be about Ukrainians' "bravery".

Quote:
What is YOUR immediate proposal to end the fighting in Ukraine, Yemen and Syria?  How do you feel about the Israelis killed in recent attacks?  What about China and the idea of taking over Taiwan?

An immediate disavowal of the absurd concept of "legal" war, the abolition of the veto power in the UNSC, and the establishment of an ICJ dedicated to upholding the principles of the UNUDHR. ie universal prosperity and security.

Now if Putin can be assured that the West will  not continue to rape him economically, as it has been doing  since the end of the Cold War, then even he would give up his veto.

(The current global monetary arrangements are nothing less than rape of the entire world by anglo-saxon/Western European debt-money enforcers, who created the debt-money system).

Just to show the economy and war are interrelated.

Correct. In the past borders were drawn by "might is right", before the creation of UN Charter in 1946 - and since then owing to the failure of that very Charter - supposedly asserted "the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by force"...the failure resulting from the  enforced adoption of the veto power  in the UNSC, owing to the reasons I explained - and which (as I predicated) you ignored completely, being the blind, irrational "freedom" ideologue you are.

Would the CCP allow Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Hong Kong to separate from China? Or would it claim the right to wage war on them as it does with Taiwan? Or arrogate to itself the right to commit atrocities on civilians as it does in Xinjiang?
Nations are human inventions, or does China not really exist?

China like all other nations was invented by force.  Now as far moving into a modern era of prosperity and security, efficient border arrangements ought to be taken into account; relations between the autonomous regions of China  are a moot point, with  an efficient central government lifting living standards at the fastest rate in history.

The CCP arbitrarily slaughters and disappears those it calls its own citizens; as we’ve seen many times now through the hundreds of leaked videos from the CCP’s hellhole.

No that's just your paranoid, delusional, "freedom ideology (emanating from unconscious survival processes entrenched in your vestigial reptilian brain...

I can see through your doublespeak on ‘sovereign’ and ‘freedom’.

Your'e kidding, you have no insight at all into the human condition.

Quote:
You’re not really referring to individuals (a term you use less and less).

My concern has always been the relationship of self-interested individuals to government and rule of law.

Quote:
You’re referring to ethnicities within China having no sovereign rights, or rights to freedom from the CCP, other than the CCP’s perversion of Han Chinese ethnic sovereign rights, in the name of whom it claims the freedom to take whatever it wants from whomever it wants.

Incorrect, as noted above.

Quote:
Marx and Engels were both driven to propose communism as a direct result of witnessing the slavery of the British working class in the 19th century.

Correct, as I have already said in the post to which you are replying, so why repeat it?

Quote:
You, on the other hand, prefer to think of the slavery of some as an artifact of the human condition.

No, the human condition, infested by irrational, unconscious survival instincts, is manifested, inter alia,  in a delusional "freedom" ideology.  Slavery is imposed on individuals... by the advantaged on the disadvantaged.

Quote:
And yet Leninism / Stalinism / Maoism were the inevitable catastrophes of communism that the last 100+ years have proved.

Inevitable,  because Europe's leaders were able to maintain power despite  capitalist exploitation and injustice, in nation's which were above the level of agrarian subsistence poverty. Leaders in Russia and China were not able to resist "communist" revolution because of the poverty of the rebelling masses.

Quote:
Democratic socialism is not totalitarian socialism.

Correct; and neither is one-party meritocracy.

Quote:
The CCP is currently rapidly devolving back to a Maoist totalitarian dictatorship, which was no different from the dynastic rule of China’s mad emperors.

You are certainly desperate to believe that the CCP government is devolving, because if it continues to evolve, your democratic rabbles will look increasingly dysfunctional in comparison.   Pakistan, Sri Lanka..and god help us, Trump will likely be back in the US, and Macron dares  to presents himself as a leader when the huge yellow vest protests have disfigured French  democracy.

Quote:
Putin is trying to pull off the same devolution in Ukraine, which will soon see him removed from power.

Putin doesn't understand the cause of poverty in Russia, (which is the evil IMF-led  (a US stooge) global debt-money economy) which he has spoken about from time to time. Consequently he has made this huge mistake, thinking Russian prosperity is endangered by NATO in Ukraine.

Quote:
Autocratic rule cannot allow meritocracy

Ok: but the one-party meritocracy governing China is getting on with creating common prosperity.

Quote:
there’s always the chance the meritocrat might disrupt the otherwise unchallengeable hierarchy.

No the hierarchy is always subject to consensus arrangements, in a one-party meritocracy.

Quote:
The CCP is more a kleptocratic / oligarchical, nepotistic autocracy, just a continuation of the old Chinese imperial dynasties with fewer silk robes and ponytails.

So you keep saying: the alternative possibility , ie  evolution into  a successful meritocracy,  would shatter your delusional "freedom"/ 'sovereign individual rights' ideology.

Quote:
But then, you’re a prostitute to the CCP so, while servicing your masters, it’s probably best for you to just lie back and think of the party.

Unfortunate juxtaposition of metaphors...

Let's just hold it right there, Pilgrim.

Your kind despise 'colonialism' and all it brought to a very dark world; then you despise 'neo-colonialism' by whatever means - economic of military - yet you advocate a form of neo-colonialism yourself in your advocacy that the there be an 'international force' to keep order - meaning invasion and was.

So dumb it isn't even funny.

Let us look at Somalia.... the US went in on a mission to keep order and guarantee relief supplies flowing to the people it was intended for.  This was a multi-national force including Pakistanis - a group of whom, fellow Muslims, were massacred by Somalis before 'Black Hawk Down', thus leading to a reluctance of the Pakistanis to effectively support the US action to bring order (your entire purported aim here) by removing one of the major players in the Warlords scenarios which was destroying the ability of relief organisations to get relief to those in the most need - the ordinary people.

Now this raises two things:-

1.  The fundamental inability of any international force to operate as a cohesive whole, and actually do the job they are there for.

2.  The lack of a fully integrated command and control mechanism meant that each nation's individual commander could decide when and how his people would operate in relation to any given mission.

Do you really expect that an international force cobbled together will suddenly abandon its own personal and national sovereignty and operate as a cohesive whole?

Somalia is perfect for this discussion:-  each player functioned with his own personal and national and religious sovereignty during the whole thing - and after - so no result was ever going to come from an attempt at inserting an international force without cohesive leadership and command and control into such a turbulent situation.

No international force has EVER managed to restore order in a given situation - take Rwanda, Congo, Yugoslavia that was - and EVERY time such a force has been advocated by the UN, the burden has fallen to a few major players - ALL functioning within their own national sovereignty.

You can talk and talk about your airy-fairy ideas and 'ideals' - But It Will Never Work!

Not only that but you will be laying the foundation for a global despotism of all, and endless wars.

No. You remind me of seventh day adventists' obsession with the second coming (with you it's 'prosperity' acomin' one day to the Chinese).

China is a dump outside Tier 1 (sometimes 2) showcase city regions.

Chinese wealth was built on slave labour which continues to this day. Because of this, poverty is forcibly entrenched beyond showcase cities, to ensure a continual supply of slaves to top tier cities' sweatshops.

I note you highlighted one sentence in my entire post, which you obviously didn't  understand., so I'll try again.

Putin "was going to have his war  whatever"..... because war is still (absurdly) "legal" even though we have entered the age of MAD (after 1945).

Now do you understand? (The question is rhetorical because your delusional "freedom" ideology prevents you from addressing the absurdity and irrationality of the concept of "legal" war.  ..with all the associated nonsensical attempts to  define war crimes,  etc  etc.

Hey, I already conceded that point; indeed the media, not you,  is having a field day intimately milking the tears of every crying mother for the emotional impact...

But as to "losing the entire argument" over that one mistake on my part,  all I can say is : "in your dreams" ;think again.

Refuted above: you have to attempt to defend the insane concept of "legal" war, in the age of MAD.

Pathetic self-interested unthinking conservative ideology  in the extreme.

Refuted above; in fact in some low-skilled industries,  factories are now moving out of China to places like Vietnam where wages are lower, because the Chinese  wage structure has risen to middle income standards.

Jesus!  And who determines what merit is?

One man's meritorious person is another man's criminal... airy-fairy nonsense.

In The Meritocracy Trap (2019), the Yale law professor Daniel Markovits argues that those who lose out in the meritocratic struggle are condemned to think of themselves as unworthy, while the winners are deformed by requirements for ever harder work, minimal opportunities for self-actualization, and repetition of the alienating process in the next generation. In a similar vein, the Harvard political theorist Michael J. Sandel argues in The Tyranny of Merit (2020) that meritocracy “diminishes our capacity to see ourselves as sharing a common fate” in large part because educated elites “fell into the habit of looking down on those who do not rise.”

There are differences between the two: Where Markovits offers a Marxian-style analysis of class exploitation and alienation with the power of educational attainment substituting for the power of capital, Sandel evokes a spiritual crisis of democratic life due to an over-emphasis on “smarts” and an under-emphasis on practical wisdom and civic virtue.
