I've seen the videos of what China is really like. Outside the tourist showcase areas, China is a dump.

The rate of change is the significant factor. Meanwhile don't look at the notorious  'rust belts' in the First World (speaking of "dumps"...)

You'd be familiar with Serpentza and Laowhy86. All wumao and little pinks are, as is the CCP.

And you'd be familiar with the videos from that British expat and his Chinese wife -  awesome (I love the comparison  of Chinese HS rail with US HS rail.....oops, the US doesn't have HS rail...priceless....

'Lifting standards' such that the Chinese don't have to eat each other's children to survive is, let's say, a low bar.

It's the trend that is important; while China has created Shenzhen, Detroit turned into a crime-infested urban waste land.

As is the video of rural Chinese children catching rats to eat.

There's videos and videos, as noted above.

The rate of change would be surprising if it were less, given the baseline. Also, turning a blind eye to the mess that China was/is, in the hopes that appeasement would yield positive results, was the world trend, until 2020.

The Chinese can, unfortunately, tolerate psychopathic emperors and have done for centuries. The current ruling mob are no different to their historical predecessors.

For those who have travelled past the eyes of the security bureau and seen the real China, it's a wasteland and a dump riddled with extreme poverty.

Actually the world considers the achievement in China to be  an economic miracle.

No, increasing paranoia about loss of evil US global hegemony, is the trend in the West.

Except our global economy is rapidly reaching a major turning point for the first time in history,
with free markets rapidly reaching their use-by date.

Yes, we talked 'economic miracle' and played the game of calling it 'bad form' to point out that China is really a corrupt dump ruled by a murderous regime that enslaves its own people.

2020 disabused us of our cultivated naivety; something that even historians had been warning us about for years.

No you - being a particularly deluded "freedom" ideology sufferer -  "played that game" (or rather, that is what you claim the rest of the world did...). The rest of world acknowledges the miracle.

2020? How so?

Don't bother repeating  your former nonsense about the CCP hiding what happened to Dr Li.... I reduced you to bleating about the CCP not paying compensation, because the medal awarded to Li by the CCP was insufficient, in your opinion.

No. The democratic 'rest of the world' all played that game. The Russians, no doubt, got the joke.

You know 2020 was a turning point. It's now OK to talk about the CCP as a murderous regime in a way that would not have happened before 2020.

No economists are genuinely impressed, they have no need to "play a game".  As for Russia, it's economic performance since the GFC has been a disaster.

You're kidding. Paranoid spooks like the ASPI have been touting the 'evils' of the CCP for a decade.

And now the 'China threat' theory is just an expansion of that paranoia based on your delusional "freedom"/"sovereign individual rights"  ideology, as China overtakes the US economy.

No. We all acknowledge now that the 'miracle' was due to slave labour.

Sure, there were some who always knew China was a scam (including many historians who pointed out that the CCP was just a continuation of the old Chinese imperial governments) but, prior to 2020, whenever the CCP were questioned about anything, there was always the CCP rant about 'racism' and 'hurting the feelings of the Chinese people'.

No point the CCP playing those cards any more; not since mid-2020.

Necessary to lift output to increase wages, china is now middle income nation.

Yes all delusional "freedom" ideologues who hate Marxism.....without understanding Marxism was a reaction to their evil "survival of the fittest"/'free economic agent'  ideology.

True, China is just getting on with the job of lifting living standards for all its people.

'[Slavery] Necessary to lift output to increase wages' - Try that one in Alabama.

Hate Marxism? That would include the CCP.

The CCP is getting on with lifting the living standards of the CCP and all its associated gangsters.

In fact the South claimed their economy would collapse without slavery; the difference being there was plenty of well paid work in Alabama (for non slaves)  at the time, unlike China in the 20th century.

China now has a pragmatic approach to economic '-isms' but Marxism is alive and well in "common prosperity".

"common prosperity" refutes that.

Meanwhile  inequality in the world's richest nation is threatening social stability.

Ok so they were the sole well-paid citizens then, as opposed to the large non-slave population in 'rich' Alabama.   Got it?

Not a 'he', but a Marxist principle.
