russia is invading Ukraine. It hits mostly civilian infrastructure and forces Ukrainians from captured villages to relocate to russia. Very nazi like, as is russia stealing Ukrainian grain and selling it to Turkey. Also nazi-like (untrustworthy, not honest negatiators) was the strike on Odessa AFTER the grain deal had been approved by russia and by Ukraine.

You better concentrate on China, Athos, that country is going to go down the gurglers any day now.

China probably has about 100 million well-organised and relatively wealthy people there. But, they have to contend with 1.3 billion Chinese residents that are on modest to low incomes. If things fall apart in China's attempt to "free itself from the tyranny imposed on it by the arrogant Western powers", you could imagine the chaos that would follow for the next decade of years.

We could probably see the Jenga castle of China's economy fall over to a point that we Aussies might be interested in buying the cheap crap that China manufactures.

So when is Putin going to show his brilliance? He and Lavrov are like walking cliches of dumb Russian cloddishness. The war should have been over in week. We are talking about what used to be considered the worlds 2nd most powerful military. Was it all a sham? Just some rusty old Cold War technology and a poorly educated population?

Gross underestimation of a war's duration is universal and always the immediate opinion of leaders and military seniors at their outset.

WW1 was predicted to be concluded by December 1914.
WW2 was predicted to be at an end by 1940 via a peace treaty.
The Korean War didn't make the status of a 'war' when it began. Like the Vietnam war, it was a 'police action'. Technically the Korean war has not concluded todate.
Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, China and India - decades in their prosecution.

Who can predict the ultimate duration of conflicts with confidence?
