I'm not so sure that will lead to a good outcome. If Ukraine does deliver a haymaker to Russia, and we know that Russia won't accept defeat, you know what that entails if Russia can't respond with conventional arms. Nukes and possibly the end of the 3 rock from the Sun.

BEIJING, July 4th. US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns demanded that Beijing stop blaming Western countries and, in particular, NATO for the conflict in Ukraine, calling this point of view "deceitful" and pro-Russian. The diplomat's words are quoted by Bloomberg on Monday .

"I hope Chinese Foreign Ministry officials stop accusing NATO of starting the conflict. This is Russian propaganda. I also hope they stop spreading false claims about American biological weapons labs that don't really exist in Ukraine," he said on forum at Tsinghua University, answering a question about China's role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

According to Bloomberg, the Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov was also present at the forum. Speaking to Burns, he thanked the PRC "for a balanced and balanced approach," and also expressed the hope that "Beijing will be able to influence Ukraine's neighbors so that they take a more realistic position on the issue of resolving the conflict."

As Chinese President Xi Jinping said earlier, Beijing takes an independent position on the Ukrainian issue, "taking into account the facts and historical realities," and is ready to assist in resolving the crisis. The head of the country, in particular, informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about this during a telephone conversation in mid-June.

There's no doubt that western Ukraine's capacity to stare down the Russian military has prompted NATO and its allies to invest in its defence (as the US did with Israel after the 6-day war proved the Israeli military was a serious fighting force).

And Putin's miscalculation has been catastrophic to his ambitions - an expanded NATO, a remilitarized Germany and a strengthening of NATO not seen in years, to name three.

But eastern Ukraine and the Crimea are east-leaning (Russo-centric) regions and will never be governable peacefully by Kiev. Also, Ukrainian far-right forces are resident there and are, no doubt, as big a problem for Kiev as they are for Russia. The EU would never tolerate a Ukraine with a far-right native force of that size as EU citizens, so western Ukraine must divest itself of these regions to be a viable western European state - that, and the elimination its judicial corruption, among other things.

Of course Putin and his allies are angered by Sweden's and Finland's imminent entry into NATO, but he has clearly acceded that it is inevitable and irreversible short of open war with NATO and the EU.

Putin is a neo-Tsarist whose goal is the reconstituting of Russia's Tsarist empire; but he will have to accept eastern Ukraine - for now.

But this ambition flies in the face of an historical fact - no empire has been reconstituted once it has fallen and has passed into history.

Interestingly, the 99-year-old Kissinger suggested the above to Zelensky.
