It is all unravelling at an ever increasing rate for Vlad. I get the feeling his days are numbered. We must hope he does nothing even more stupid before then.

He'll try, but all of his senior command have to live in that town.

Who's keeping Navalny alive? It couldn't be Putin. He's just murdered his way through 15 oligarchs, so he's in no mood to be dissed.

But the chief political dissident is still alive. Who's ensuring that?

Hardly surprising.

Mobilisations of this kind usually do. Think Vietnam war.

Ah, but Vietnam was capitalism imposing it's will on the freedom loving people of Vietnam!  Not like the freedom loving people of the motherland seeking to liberate the people of Ukraine who labour under Nazi domination!  The people of Russia are 100% behind Vladimir Putin as they seek to push into Ukraine!  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Yep, and then there's reality.

This is Russia's second 'Vietnam'; Afghanistan being the first, which Gorbachev suggested triggered the start of the Soviet Union's fall, Chornobyl being the final nail.

Putin has already offered prison inmates freedom after a 6-month 'tour of duty' in Ukraine; some lessons never get learned.

Comrade, isn't it better for the prisoners to serve as a mine detector than as a prisoner?  They would be doing it for the glory of the Motherland, after all!   Lessons need to be relearned by all volunteers when the Rodina is threatened!  Lessons which ensure that Comrade Stalin Vladimir is obeyed!  We must remember this!  Glory to the Rodina!

Of course I don't support Russia in what it is doing.  Just engaging is some satire, at Vlad's expense. Grin Wink

The mention of Afghanistan reminds  me of a war memorial  I saw in Russia. Every other memorial was a larger than life statue of a steely eyed soldier looking determinedly into the distance and brandishing a flag or a weapon in defence of the Motherland.
One though was different. It was a soldier sitting on the ground, head bowed and shoulders slumped, looking utterly beaten and exhausted. This was the Afghan memorial, a realistic expression of how the Russians saw the conflict there.
I wonder what memorials this Ukraine war will inspire.

Interesting. One wonders if this was a mutiny by conscripts rather than a planned attack by insurgents?
