I heard of a Mens shed in NZ that has women in it.

By all accounts it was all quite good.
Probably depends more on the mentality, attitude and lifestyle of whoever wants to join.

Sounds like you bumped into John Smith and GreggoryPeccary Ayn. Some people just can't be honest with themselves and just want to use people.

I personally am happy with either. In a way - it shouldn't matter, as long as they are in the Mens Shed to do what people do in Mens Sheds like tinker, create, socialise and talk mental health, physical health, etc.

I really don't understand the purpose of a 'Co-Sex-Shed' of including female 'membership' (beyond visitors) and calling it a Men's Shed. If it has both sexes - then just call it 'A Shed'.
Single Sex is as important as Co-Sex - both have their advantages for being different. Women who attack male only bastions need a kick up the arse - trying to destroy something, because they can't equalise it or form their own.

I'm not impressed with Gays or even Christians who join just to exploit a victimised position for legal and financial advantages. People with 'thin' skin should NOT be allowed in Mens Sheds because its all about Mental/Physical Health through creative Trades (and even Admin). Many Members have mental health issues and thus - should not be taken advantage of, just because they don't see the big picture.
All good things take time, not legal action.
