15,091 tests in NSW.
11,695 tests in Victoria.
What's happened to the 50,000 - 100,000 tests that we used to see every day?
Oh, that's right - people can't get tested because a lot of the PCR testing places have closed down and they can't find a RAT anywhere. Or, they just can't be bothered getting tested anymore.
Won't be long before both States have 0 daily cases but dozens still dying and thousands still in hospital every day.
Who wants to line up for a test when they are crook?
5 hours waiting in a queue?
Honestly, my personal story, I started showing symptoms on the Sat the 8th of Jan. I thought that it was nothing, but it got worse so I went to line up for a test the next day (Sunday).
I didn't want to risk being stuck in the car with the wife and kids so I went alone. 6 hours waiting on the queue only to be turned away because the testing centre closed. That was 6 hours I could have been resting, trying to let my body do it's thing, but instead I was driving what felt like a few cm forward every couple of minutes.
I was practically unable to get out of bed on the Monday and Tuesday all the while trying to stay away from my wife and kids on the other side of the house the whole time, useless if COVID Delta or Omicron, but I tried.
Tried again to get a test on Wednesday, 5 hours in the queue, got to the front, got the test. Waited for the results.
All this time I had spoken to my doctor and they wouldn't see me until I had a negative test result and the respiratory clinics wouldn't see me until I returned a positive result because I'd already had a test.
I didn't get the results until Saturday, almost 72 hours after the test (at which time they say call this number if you don't have your results etc).
Negative.
Great. I was feeling better by then, the symptoms had passed, all that was left was a croaky throat and some congestion.
Went back to work, told to stay at home because I sounded terrible, so be it.
Had a telehealth appointment, even though the PCR was negative, they needed a negative RAT before they'd see me. Thankfully we'd finally gotten some by Wednesday, so I was able to see the doctor on Thursday.
They agreed it wasn't COVID, took a swap to see if they could tell what the virus was.
On Saturday they said that the results were, the virus was unknown. Given I had started getting worse again, they've given me a prescription for antibiotics because it's moved into a bacterial chest infection but to try some other medication first and if it's no better by today to go and get that script, which I'll be doing at lunch.
Long story short, I feel like I was sicker than I needed to be because I spent so long in the car at the start of the infection rather being able to rest and I couldn't seek any medical help unless I had one additional symptom, that being difficulty breathing and now I've got a secondary infection thanks for all of that.
Fun time, and it's not even COVID so I won't even get a boost in immunity.
So tldr, as soon as you can find any RATs grab them and try to avoid PCR tests at least until things calm down because you might make yourself sicker. If only the Government kept their word and had the RATs available for all on Nov 1st a lot of the personal but more importantly economic issues, staff and supply shortages we've faced could have been avoided.
