Martial arts thoughts?
Nov 13th, 2021 at 10:07am

An environment of martial arts learning.

What about his club?

I think that too many people jump straight into some flashy martial art -
such as Taekwondo -
before first learning the basics such as a few years doing some:
wrestling, Judo and boxing.
Your thoughts?

If you look at MMA on TV or on YouTube you see that the winners
have a very broad background in martial arts - not just one style.

Bruce Lee combined many martial arts into Jeet Kune Do.

I have Nidan (2nd) dan in Zen Do Kai.

I did a bit of Kickboxing as well.

I worked for Samurai Security in the 1980s as a bouncer doing mostly concert security. Bob would hire students for this.

60 minutes interviewed Bob Jones about 30 years ago it had a bit with Tino Ceberano who is the singer Kates father saying it's not traditional martial arts it's something suited for back alleys. I worked with Kate at a few of her concerts when she was with I'm Talking.

Quote:
Richard Norton (born 6 January 1950) is an Australian martial artist, Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee, action film star, stuntman, stunt/fight coordinator or fight choreographer, and martial arts trainer. After high school, Norton worked as a bodyguard in the entertainment business before pursuing an acting career. He has attained a 10th Degree in Zen Do Kai, Australia. His first screen appearance was in the 1980 Chuck Norris film The Octagon, and he has worked on over 80 feature films and television programs.[1]

Norton has trained in many aspects of martial arts, including Judo, Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, Thai boxing and several Japanese weapons systems. He used this experience to co-create the hybrid martial art Zen Do Kai with fellow security guard Bob Jones. He has a 5th-Degree Shihan rank Black Belt in Goju Ryu, 8th-Degree Masters rank in Chun Kuk Do (Chuck Norris system), 5th-Degree Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a 10th-degree Black Belt in Zen Do Kai Karate, an organisation of over 5,000 members. He has trained with Tino Ceberano, Tadashi Yamashita, Fumio Demura, Bill 'Superfoot' Wallace, Pete "Sugar Foot" Cunningham, Jean-Jacques Machado and Chuck Norris.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

Thanks Baron,
your post is sort of agreeing with my opening post.
It's not any one style that is the best but a mixture
taking the best parts from different styles.
You haven't mentioned: wrestling, Judo and boxing?

I started doing Judo around 7 years of age at Police Boys club also did Aikido and Ju Jitsu there. My father did martial arts he didn't want us knocking teeth out or breaking noses at school so we started with grappling.

I was on the high school wrestling team when i did a year of school in the US.The footbal team would do laps of the oval we had to run up and down the grandstand.

Bob Jones was really the first kickboxing promotor in Australia so punches in Zen Do Kai are based on boxing. We also did traditional reverse punch from Karate because there is a rear elbow strike with them which is good for someone in front and behind you at same time.

Like any martial art better to learn from many instead of just one. I trained under quite a few including undefeated commonwealth kickboxing champ and others who had black belts in judo aikido etc. We would train monday to thursday going to different dojos run by different people then do concert security on fri -sat nights.

Fights can degenerate into a grapple so that part needs work. I was putting submission holds on in primary and high school fights.

That's impressive.
My martial arts resume is not worth repeating after that.
