Oh dear... Pumped hydro is a basic element of presently available renewables-storage technology. And conventional hydro is a direct generator of green electricity in its own right.

A currency-issuer doesn't need to tax in order to spend, you should know that by now. Taxes may be required for other purposes, but the currency-issuer doesn't need taxes in order to spend. Apparently you think any spending of money created by the currency-issuer and spent by the currency issuer will create inflation...you are wrong. The inflation constraint for a currency-issuer is availability of resources, not the money supply.

It was your response to NO TAXES, now you want to change what you meant. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Nope. My position has always been build sufficient infrastructure for 100% renewables, (solar/wind +pumped hydro/batteries storage + smart grid,  to eliminate filthy fossils, create free electricity and eradicate poverty. Obviously redistribution of resources (an opportunity cost) is involved but so what? No poverty, no filthy, poisonous atmosphere from the filthy poisonous fossil industry is infinitely more valuable than any quantum of 'opportunity cost'.

And yet there is no study to which you can refer says so. Roll Eyes

thegreatdivide wrote on Dec 3rd, 2021 at 2:57pm:
Yes, that's why wealthy interests are falsely critiquing MMT with all sort of nonsensical argumentation (mostly based on ignorance of what MMT really says).

To quote Feynman again - remember physicist?

"It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong."

And you haven't even done one successful experiment yet. Unless of course you look at the failed ones. Venezuela?

Irrelevant. Weather dependency is accounted for, via the smart grid with storage backup.

This is addressed more appropriately on the Green's taxation thread, you can follow it there.

Here is the link (I thought I did provide it:

ANU finds 530,000 potential pumped-hydro sites worldwide

I know Alok Sharma ended up in tears at the end of COP 26, because he doesn't understand the pernicious reality of orthodox economics.....

Venezuela has nothing to do with MMT.

But have a look at the Das article on the Greens taxation thread: Das is bemoaning the fact governments have been FORCED to "experiment" with MMT during the pandemic.....

No, rather empiricism, because the monetarist status quo isn't working.

You are the ISIS theologian in this debate.

Note: resource development and allocation, not money, is the true concern of economics.

You have a low estimation of research and engineering, and technology development.

The ink was only just dry on "phase out coal", when India forced a change of text to "phase down coal", hence Sharma's tears. He didn't understand India would require massive assistance to 'phase out' coal.  Assistance which the first world  is not interested in giving, owing to the 'debt' delusion of orthodox economics.

Note: resource development and allocation, not money, is the true concern of economics.

Quote:

Common sense ie  backup.....never mind; common sense isn't all that common.

Quote:
Oh dear a computer study that didn't even look at soil types.

The point is half a million sites are available for further study.

I am just about ready to cease dragging you - kicking and screaming - into the new renwables-based, circular economy of the 21st century.  Smiley

(It's likely to be as fruitless as dragging an ISIS theologian toward a non-fundamentalist reading of the Koran...)

Quote:
Yes. Experiment not make a huge assumption before doing the experiment.

What assumption? The massive global debt is real after covid, and has to be dealt with. It's time to write-off much of it.  Experiment.

AGW science maybe, though the largest tornado in history in the US is convincing more and more even among the non-experts.

Meanwhile the biggest government debts in history, as a result of a global pandemic, are REAL.

Hats off to you for reading the article, I wondered if you would read it.

Next step: educate yourself, so that you don't make the same mistakes as Das who prefers to stick with his classical orthodox education, in the face of its obvious shortcomings.

eg "Getting one person to dig a hole and another to fill it in creates employment, but it is of doubtful economic and social value".. No understaning at all

eg,   local council-organised-assistance for home maintenance for the elderly, when spare labor is available   (ie always, because  some people always have difficulty finding a regular job) has definite social and economic value.

Anyway here's a start:

Only 125 then, but no doubt representing 90% (probably more) of the world's economy, with countries like S. Arabia and Russia on board.

Exactly. meanwhile Bolsanaro's claim his government was broke - meaning citizens faced a choice between starving at home in a lock-down, or going back to work and dying of covid, is absurd in theory and practice. Sovereign currency- issuing government need never "run out of money" (The MMT revelation)

Quote:
That is not identified in the paper. Don't make schist up.

"The team developed the advanced GIS algorithms to locate prospective sites for off-river pumped hydro across a large land area such as a state or a country. Each identified site comprises an upper and lower reservoir pair plus a hypothetical tunnel route between the reservoirs, and includes data such as latitude, longitude, altitude, head (the minimum altitude difference between potential upper and lower reservoirs in the data set - a larger head is generally better), slope, water volume, water area, rock volume, dam wall length, water/rock ratio, energy storage potential and approximate relative cost (categories A-E)."

So.... much more than just local topography.

Quote:

More research required to achieve the 100% circular economy- publicly funded because the private sector needs profits from investment - but nevertheless waste minimization close to 100% is essential in the long term.

oh hypothetical tunnels. Do they allow hypothetical water flow? Wink

And yes I was wrong. I include soil types 'though strictly speaking they are separate. What is the soil type through which the tunnels pass? Is it permeable or impermeable? Will water drain away and have to be replenished? An algorithm can't tell you that.

That's close enough to global unanimity over concerns re AGW.
