Went stupid today, wouldn't shut down.
The pressure blow off valve did it's job, but it's a pain.

Closer inspection showed it was the regulator that died.
The rubber diaphragm that actuated the mechanical switch had perished and once the switch turned on, it would not shut down.

Was a cheap fix, a new regulator was only $70.00.
1/2 hour for me to strip it down and repair and it's back to normal.

Just a warning for everyone out there with a compressor.
This is a fairly regular occurrence apparently.
It's been 12 years with mine, (surprisingly not detected when I put her in for my 10 year cylinder checkup).

Symptoms are
An air leak around the regulator.
Takes longer to get up to pressure and continually starts up.
Compressor overheating ( sets off the heat sensor and shuts down)
Overpressure valve blows off, get it fixed NOW.

Additionally, be sure you actuate your overpressure valve manually at least once every time you use your compressor.
Stops it sticking.
The worst case scenario if it fails, cylinder explodes.

No, I'm retired.
It happened at home.
I have a number of air tools and spray guns for when I'm making things.
At the time I was spraying up a new display case I built for the wife, a little one.

It was pure luck I was using my small HVLP gun, so it makes very little noise.
If I was using one of the old traditional guns, i might not have noticed.
I keep my compressor in a shed outside my workshop and run a line through the shed to several outlets.
It's much quieter and less intrusive.
But being outside the workshop, you don't notice it too much.
