Has This Aged Well?
Oct 5th, 2021 at 10:01am

What songs or albums do you think have aged well ... or not?

1) Frampton Comes Alive - I know it was one of the 70s top-selling albums but I find it mostly unbearable.  Has it aged well?

Fantastic album.  One of my all time favourites.

I'll have to take a listen to it all the way through sometime today and see how it holds up.

In the '90s, of course, he released 'Frampton Comes Alive! II'.

His latest studio album is a bunch of instrumental covers.  Interesting.

Frampton, I think, has the respect of his peers more so than that of the music-listening 21st-century public.

2) Joy Division/New Order - IMO everything they did has aged quite well.

Yes, that would be a fair assessment.

I saw him live about 10 years ago, and he was on fire.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a ticket back in 1978 though   Cry

Steely Dan still sounds fresh and new to me. Don't they spend years in the recording studio for each album and don't really do live music?

Yeah, the original band stopped doing live gigs in the mid-seventies (although they started playing live again in the mid-nineties, from memory).

It was basically two guys -  Walter Becker and Donald Fagen - and hired studio musicians.

Sadly, there's only one left now - Becker died recently.

The band was named after a dildo.  True story.

Didn't know the dildo story or that one of them had died. Now that I think about it, I was living in Japan years back when they did a series of concerts there. Well, I could have gone ... my loss.

In the book Naked Lunch, by William S. Burroughs, there's a steam-powered dildo called Steely Dan.

That's where they got the band name from  Smiley
