NSW is expected to hit its 70 per cent COVID-19 vaccination target today after recording the lowest infection figures in seven weeks.
Key points:

The state recorded 594 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday, from 90,680 tests.

Included in today's deaths were three residents at an aged care centre in Sydney's south-west.

Today's infection figures are the lowest since August 18 at 634 cases — the August 17 daily case total was 454.

A total of 88.6 per cent of people in NSW aged 16 or over have had one COVID-19 vaccine and 67.7 per cent are fully inoculated.

Premier Dominic Perrottet has announced "major changes" to NSW's roadmap out of COVID-19 lockdowns, as the state recorded 587 new cases and eight deaths.

One of the headline tweaks will be reopening schools for many year groups early.

Fully vaccinated adults are due to get a swathe of new freedoms from Monday — including being able to do things like eat at restaurants and go to the gym, which have been off limits in some areas for more than 100 days.

While the settings around hospitality and retail remain unchanged, Mr Perrottet announced several major departures from the previous blueprint, including:

Increasing the number of adults allowed to gather in homes from five to 10
Increasing the number of adults allowed to gather in public spaces from 20 to 30
Increasing the cap of people at weddings and funerals from 50 to 100
Reopening indoor pools

A ban on singing at religious services will also be tweaked, with performers — including choirs of up to 10 people — permitted.

NSW has recorded 646 COVID-19 infections and 11 deaths in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday.

One of the deaths, was a man in his 80s who was a resident of the Allity Beechwood Aged Care Facility in Revesby and is the fourth death link to the outbreak there.

Seven of the people who died were unvaccinated.

Nearly nine-out-of-10 people in NSW over the age of 16 have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

As of yesterday, 89.4 per cent of the state's population aged over 16 had received a first dose COVID-19 vaccine, and 70.3 per cent were fully vaccinated.
