What we need to remember why countries like the UK have higher numbers compared to say Australia…. Their country is 3 times more population than us, their country is the size of Victoria.

Imagine, if we had triple the population we now have, and cram them all in one state the size of Victoria?
How different our results would have been. Much the same as the UK perhaps?

Our advantage is less population and more space.
Capital cities like Melbourne and Sydney are always going to be the main culprits where breakouts occur because of condensed population in more confined area.
The more regional areas are not deserving any lockdowns.
Hence our 2 week extended Melbourne lockdown is for Melbourne only, and not the whole of Victoria.

Oh, and of course:

NHS Providers have written a letter, explaining that health service resources are now as overwhelmed as they were in January, 2021 – with the situation predicted to get worse before it gets better

ACT records 17 new cases

It brings the total number of active cases in the territory to 45.

None of those 45 cases are hospitalised.

Canberrans broke a testing record with 7,380 being conducted yesterday.

Yesterday ACT Health authorities announced a two-week extension to the Canberra lockdown, after a large number of cases were reported in the previous 24 hours.

The ACT's lockdown has been extended for at least another two weeks, with the current lockdown to last until
Thursday, September 2.

It came as the ACT recorded its highest ever daily number of cases, with 19 new cases announced on Monday.

Meh, killing people destroys economies. Its easy to understand lockdown purpose if you accept the need to vaccinate. We need to minimise transmission until enough people have been vaccinated.

But that point also explains why you see a lot of right whingers seemingly anti-vax. If you are seen to be pro-vax and thus controlling COVID therefore you have to wait until enough can be vaccinatd, therefore you need lockdowns (which for the short term damage economy but long term won't) since
