However, according to typical gain of function definitions, including one offered by Fauci in 2012, a study published in 2017 by Wuhan researchers would be considered such research.

Or more likely the opposite as Dr Fauci did not recommend masks being used in the community because there were not enough to even cover the hospitals. He wanted health workers protected as a priority.

If he came out from day one and said the NIH is funding a facility in Wuhan that is creating gain of function for animal virus' then perhaps his word today may have some value.
