Anyone have a preference for a washer/dryer? Top-load v Bottom-load, side-by-side v stackable? Brands?

I dry my clothes under the house, with the garage securely locked at all times. I do this to prevent thieves from stealing oversized clothing. Someone stole a pair of my underwear and went parasailing with them at Yeppoon Main Beach. The Bonds company wrote me a strongly worded letter about the misuse of their brand name, 'cos they knew those jocks were mine...

WE tend toward high end equipment, lasts longer and has less trouble.
Our last washing machine died  a few years ago after nearly 35 years of constant use.
Our new one is a Speed Queen, the same as those used in laundromats.
Metal gearbox, solid as a rock and works like a treat.
Cost 3x as much as a good washing machine and 5 x more than a cheapie, but is a much better machine.

We prefer to dry on the line.
We live away from the smog and pollution of the city, so the clothes smell fresh and clean.
When the weather prevents this I have an awning attached to the shed that is 8m x 6m under which I have several clothes lines.

For any urgent drying we have our original dryer, dont remember what brand it is but it still runs perfectly.
Dont get used as much as when we had babies, but for the occasional towel or such its great.

But we prefer open air drying every time.

My parents lived in Marrickville and the clothes line made the clothes dirty.
Aircraft dropping fuel and crap as well as the general pollution added to a rather nasty wash.

All depends I guess.

My daughter has a combined washer and drier but I forget the brand.

I have an LG front load washer which is OK ... uses less water than a top loader.

Only issue is that the door needs a hell of a push to close properly. I have to use my knee to give it enough shove.  Shocked

front loaders give a better wash than top  loaders

and avoid Fisher & Paykel .. they're good machines but have so many unnecessary components they are more likely to break down

Get a front loader and a separate dryer.  Front loaders wash more efficiently, but a combined washer/dryer is extremely inefficient.

I have a 10 year old Bosch washer and a nearly 20 year old Hoover dryer. The dryer is rarely used  however.

All the ones I've seen have different load ratings for the washer and dryer.  Eg, 10kgwasher 6kg dryer

I've always wondered what I'm supposed to do with the other 4kg of clothes after washing ? Roll Eyes

Front loader they don't wear out clothes like a top loader. The agitator in top loaders increases wear on clothes.

I prefer the sun for drying.

A friend repairs washing machines he says LG are great.

I bought a top loader shortly before I moved into my current place. Got rid of it after 10 months. Every single one of my tshirts had small holes in the bottom of the tshirt where they kept catching  on the agitator
