ScoMo's vaccination passport more likely.

Looks like the vax is sort of compulsory:

Scott Morrison’s vaccination passport idea
becomes even more likely

Scott Morrison is preparing to roll out a formal vaccine certificate that could be used to offer incentives including cash prizes to Aussies with the jab.

Australia has moved a step closer to Covid-19 passports for adults who are fully vaccinated with the Morrison Government preparing to roll out a formal Medicare certificate that could also be used by companies to offer incentives including cash prizes and store vouchers.

The big move could be used to roll out greater freedoms for the fully vaccinated to travel interstate or even avoid lockdowns in some states subject to agreement at the national cabinet.

It could open the door to pubs, clubs, gyms and employers demanding proof of vaccination before allowing patrons onsite. But the opposition is calling for more information on how the certificates will be used.

Government Services Minister Linda Reynolds confirmed the move on Wednesday insisting the new certificate is a “simple and easy” way for people to show their Covid-19 vaccination status.

“The Covid-19 digital certificate makes proof of vaccination accessible anytime, anywhere,” she said.

“Once your provider has reported both doses of an approved vaccine, you’ll be able to access your Covid-19 digital certificate online through myGov or in the Express Plus Medicare app,” she said.

“I’m encouraging all Australians to ensure you’ve linked your Medicare account to myGov. Linking Medicare to myGov is simple, and more than 10 million Australians have already completed this process.”

While not compulsory, the certificate could still be requested in the future by pubs and clubs and other entertainment venues that plan to require proof of vaccination. It also follows the Prime Minister’s call to allow vaccinated Australians greater freedom to travel interstate and avoid lockdowns.

Not really, just if you want to do anything of value.

So, will fully vaccinated Australians now be unable to catch and spread Covid? First I've heard of it. Must be another new strain? Might turn out to be the Omega variant?  Shocked

Sounds like something that's being pushed by the airlines/tourism/travel/international students/ etc. industries to get everyone vaccinated quickly (in the mistaken belief they will no longer be able to catch and spread Covid) because they've been losing so much money since the start of the pandemic.

re: the picture of the phone with the Covid vaccination 'certificate' on the screen in Bobby's first post.

How long will it take for people to grab an image of that from somewhere (even a friend's phone) and put the image on their own phone to make it look like they've also been vaccinated?

I'm sure not many places are going to check to see if the image is genuine except for perhaps airlines and airports (and, I even have my doubts about that).

Same thing has been happening with these QR code apps that you have to check in with when entering shops, etc. - some people just have an image of the green check in screen with the big tick on it which they quickly show if anyone wants to see if they've checked in (I'm sure the shop staff wouldn't bother to look at it too closely if they even bother to check peoples' phones at all). Never seen anyone check sign ins at any shop in Perth that I've been to.

Plus, we still have the ones without mobile phones who put fake names and phone numbers on the pen and paper check ins at stores.

My guess is that the MyGov health will be divided into
2 main areas :
the super secure normal one you see now and
a less secure one with just your name and
whether you were vaxed
available to the security people at shops or anywhere.

State premiers and Coalition colleagues slam Scott Morrison’s vaccination passport idea

https://www.news.com.au/national/politics/state-premiers-and-coalition-colleague...

Quote:
Scott Morrison is under fire from state premiers and his own colleagues for pandering to “bed-wetting” over his COVID-19 vaccine passport plan, with Nationals MP George Christensen slamming the plan as “tyranny”.

In a stinging attack on his Telegram account to conservative supporters, Liberal National MP George Christensen has warned the PM to dump the idea.

“I understand the Prime Minister is trying to navigate the idiocy of bed-wetting and politically opportunistic premiers shutting state borders as soon as someone in another state sneezes, but with the greatest respect, vaccine passports are not a path to freedom. They are a path to tyranny,’’ Mr Christensen said.

Well, when Coalition colleagues start turning on their own Prime Minister it is probably time to get rid of the lot of them.

Roll on Federal election day next year...  Smiley

If the current crop of vaccines also provided sterilizing immunity I could accept the vaccination certificate.

BUT.............!!!!

Even if you have been fully vaccinated (both jabs) you can still catch this covid-19 virus and pass it on to other people.

So whether you have or haven't had the jab, both can catch and transmit the virus.

So why the passport................????

In simple words

Sterilizing immunity = Once you have had the jab you can no longer become infectious and you can no longer transmit the virus to other people.

Warnings 'vaccine certificate' privileges could spark resentment

https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-digital-certifica...

Quote:
"For the first time since March of last year we might have a situation where people can leave their community with no COVID, go to an area which has some COVID and return home with relatively few restrictions and still be protecting their community," he told Today.

However, he warned that if some Australians would be treated differently to others, then the vaccine rollout would have to be done in a "very equitable manner".
"I'm particularly thinking of culturally and linguistically diverse Australians because we don't want a scenario where less privileged Australians who want to get vaccinated are watching more privileged Australians get vaccinated, jet-setting around the world, because that can lead to resentments," Professor Senanayake said.

Yep... exactly. It can also lead to even more Covid spread, vaccinated or not.

And, I still believe the massive push to get everyone vaccinated is more about money (airlines, airports, travel, tourism, international students, etc.) than it is about concern for the average persons' health.
