I recall trying to maintain the old mower we had here. Dad and my uncle like to keep my grandfather's old mowers under the house. But, the 1980s mower we had was still being used 10 years ago. I recall I put the wrong type of oil in the oil section. I managed to get the mower going and did a few laps of the yard. But, then the mower seized up nearly all of a sudden. Just stopped dead. Trying to pull the cord to restart, the cord just barely moved. Putting two and two together, it was the wrong type of engine oil for a mower.

I went and bought some kind of oil that remedies these sorts of situations. After leaving the oil for a while, I came back and got the mower started, spluttering to a start. The smoke coming from the mower was noticeable. I did about 10 minutes worth of mowing until I decided that I was polluting the air too much. I turned off the mower and left the mowing until the next day. On that occasion, the mower was still smoking away, but not as bad. I did the whole yard and feared not what the neighbours thought of the smoke coming from the mower. It took another mow or two before the mower was back to not emitting smoke.

Well, it is about frickin' time that the rain comes down. Been waiting for some rain since Friday to water in my lawn seeds.

That must have been a close call.
Smoke is a bad thing .
I found changing the oil made mine start better.
Also use 95 octane in it.
That 91 is not good.

I am worried that the wind will blow away the lawn seeds. But, I figure I have put the seeds down long before the rain and (later) the wind has come along. The seeds would be settled in by now. But, I will find out in about a week or so how well the seeds have germinated.

I used premium unleaded petrol in the mower some time ago, thinking that the high octane petrol will do the mower some good. Nope, the mower ran poorer. Dad told my 30-year-old self to just use normal unleaded. The guy at the service station told me that the petrol should be mixed in with a certain solution so that it runs at its optimal. Premium unleaded is not that.

Busy packing up the house so haven’t bothered to try restarting the mower—will get Jim or whatever mowing service to run a mower over the lawns quickly just before settlement takes place. Just have it relatively neat—a big bloody excavator will be along to demolish the house some time after settlement so no need to obsess about the lawns here.

The rain is, unfortunately, clearing here. When I go to work tomorrow night, the grass will probably look green and uniform in health right around the house.

I had some spinach seeds in a packet, just sitting under the house. I threw the seeds into the garden out the back, without giving too much due care to whether they germinate or not. I hear that the spinach seems to soak up saline soils.

No rain until Friday this week. I have yet to have a look at the garden, a week on from 'planting' the seeds (with reckless abandon). Maybe the rain was enough to wash the seeds into the upper part of the soil. And the grass clippings did enough to shelter the seeds.

Does anyone know what kind of tree this is? I want to research it. But I don't know where to start.
