Air bags.
May 27th, 2021 at 6:33pm

Here’s a question.
My son had a car accident yesterday, was hit at side (t boned) and then front vehicle pushed into pole causing a lot of damage and his 4WD Triton is written off by insurance.
Other driver survived and Son is okay, albeit sore neck, back and wrist taking impact.... and.... no airbags were deployed!!!

I’m getting over the shock but very grateful none were seriously injured or killed.
But tomorrow, I need to call Triton and make a serious enquire why their airbags failed to deploy after vehicle hit hard twice!

The other car was a BMW and looks like a bomb went off as it looked like it exploded!

Like I said, thanking it wasn’t worse.

Glad he's OK Lols..

What model Bmer what the other car?

Something to remember is that an ANCAP 5 star rating for a small car is only in comparison to other cars within the same Size class. If a tiny Hyundai car gets a 5 star, an Audi Q9 should be 10 star in comparison.  I know which I'd want my kids to ride in.

That seems very suss Lols. You would think if an accident is severe enough to write off the vehicle the air bags would have deployed. Did the Police say anything about it? Let us know what the manufacturer says.

Glad everyone is OK.

I'm glad I found it, explains what I was going to say.

In short, if airbags didn't deploy and the driver wasn't injured, although the car looks damaged, structurally it probably wasn't.

Sometimes people with faulty airbags disconnected them.
They all have a connector that can easily be pulled out.

Probably part of the takata recall.

I have a 2007 Triton and I was in a serious accident a few years ago, the air bags did not deploy.
The recall on the takata airbags had nothing to do with them not deploying but was about metal shards exploding out when they did deploy.

That’s a good link with info Gordy...thanks for that. I will read it up over the weekend.

As for the type of BMW.... hubby says it’s similar to one I had (until it got recalled for faulty airbags) I loved that red zippy car... was a dream to drive, hugged the road so well.
In about 3 years I could’ve had it on club reg... dang it.
Mine was a 328i.
Ah well, them there’s the breaks.

Update on son... he’s sore, whiplash etc but his wrist is really painful from hanging onto the steering wheel .... coz air bags could’ve stopped that ....
He is going to get an x-ray.
You know, when the body takes a huge jarring as such, one doesn’t realise till the next day all the pains that follow.

I was 21 as a passenger in a car accident once, my friend and I were on the way to do a dress making pattern drafting course.
She went onto the main road to turn right, in the early 7.30 am morn of Saturday, in her Datsun 180b, and she did not see a Ute, with a trailer full of cement dust, coming over the railway crossing towards her, and I saw it and it was too late to say stop, I closed my eyes and braced for the impact.
I hadn’t even put my seatbelt on yet after she picked me up.

Did I pass out or something?
It was a cold morning when no shops were open, it was void of anyone, to me opening my eyes to see hoards of people including an ambulance hovering around us.
Shattered glass in my mouth, eyes, hair, all over me.

Well we ended up in hospital as my right leg had hit the gear stick so hard, it moved a muscle out of place. My friend had a steel pin put in her shoulder. I was limping for ages after that.
But it really came back to haunt me when I was pregnant. My hip would click in and out of place!

To this day, and I didn’t get told I could do a TAC claim... I have spent thousands on chiropractors over the years... but arthritis is what it seems to love old injury sites!

Funny story... when my kids were younger, and I would walk quietly up the hallway to check they are sleeping okay etc. they would tell me they would know I was there because they could hear my bones clicking! PMSL.... so much for trying to walk quietly.

Yes, that’s so scary..... those poor people that were caught with faulty airbags, survived the crash, but not the metal shards piercing their head.
Glad you survived Rhino.

There was a rule years ago that 4WD vehicles fitted with bull bars were not allowed in the Melbourne CBD, because even with a small hit on pedestrians, killed them.... so bull bars got a bad name being very pedestrian unfriendly!
