When you lose something, it is no longer in your possession. When you gamble, you are expecting the chance of a favourable pay off.

I saw my sister put $500 through the pokies once. I was down in Melbourne visiting her and she wanted to go to The Club. So we went. She drew $250 out of the ATM and off we went. I watched her put that through the pokies. I hadn't even seen a pokie for eons and still thought you could put 5 cents through. LOL

Anyway, she was putting notes through the machine and getting a few drops. She told me to put some money through. I looked in my purse and had 2 x $2 coins, so I put those through and actually got a drop, so I collected the drop and put that back in my purse. LOL

She laughed and by this time she was running out of funds so she gave me her Bank card and PIN and sent me off to draw another $250.

She lost most of that too. For years after that she called me The Last of the Big Spenders. She lost $500 and I spent $4 and "won" that back. Grin

Haven't been near a poker machine since.

My final straw not to play the pokies regularly was when I lost $200. That machine was playing cold. But after losing $100, I figured that I was due for a win. I played until I lost $200. If I walked away and someone won that money back, I would have fantasized about setting the pub up for a break and enter, I was that irritated.

Wow - I once saw a man lose $2,500 in
5 roulette spins at crown casino.
He was betting $500 per spin and didn't hit anything.

I also saw a lady win $3,500 in one spin.
She put $100 on one number and it hit.
