A MAN once convicted over his involvement in the freak shooting death of a truck driver was one of 11 people charged during a week long operation targeting Sydney crime groups.

Moustafa Mariam was allegedly driving an Audi RS3 at 110km/h in a 70km/h zone through Greenacre on Saturday night when NSW Police Strike Force Raptor officers pulled him over.

Mariam, 36, was charged with two driving offences, while also being hit with separate charges relating to domestic violence allegations from earlier this year.

Mariam’s rap sheet includes a conviction for affray over the 2009 shooting death of truck driver Bob Knight, who was killed by a stray bullet fired between warring groups 120m away in a Milperra KFC carpark. Mariam did not fire the gun, but drove several of those involved to the fast food outlet.

Mariam was also jailed for fourand-a-half years for possessing a.45 handgun found in 2014.

A day after Mariam’s arrest, 26-year-old Thomas Tonga’s home in Penrith was raided by police, where allegedly more than $120,000 in cash, a black BMW, drugs, and phones were seized and he was charged with numerous drug and bodily harm charges.

He was refused bail in court on Wednesday and is due to face court again on Friday.

Up this way - coupla nights ago on the news - bloke did a road rampage thing and had repeated crashes and ran over people... then they said 'West Kempsey Man' - that's the same peaceful lot who were after my blood when I said I'd have the OzFlag on OzDay on the car when dropping off fire victim supplies...

They went without..... the now-traditional sheila appointed as the 'fire victim recovery officer' in the council wouldn't leave the office.... waste of a very costly Land Cruiser. I said a coupla big blokes - one White and one Boori - would settle any issues some may have had with "aufority' comin' aroun' an' tellin' 'em wot t' do!"

Let 'em do it their way then...

A MEMBER of a colourful Western Sydney family hid more than $700,000 in illegal cash inside superhero backpacks and a pistol in his mother’s bedside table.

Ahmed Elmir, 34, was jailed for a maximum five years and six months in the Downing Centre District Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to six offences relating to a treasure trove of cocaine, cash and guns that police uncovered.

On August 14 last year, police pulled Elmir over on the M5 and found 5g of cocaine and almost $120,000 cash in a Woolworths shopping bag inside his car. He told the officers: “I have a bad gambling debt, I was going to pay it back”, the court heard.

Elmir’s home was searched that day by Bankstown Police who found a 9mm pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition in a bedside table inside a bedroom used by his mother.

Police also found a padlocked Superman backpack that contained more than $102,000. In Elmir’s bedroom, the officers found another 9mm pistol, 100 rounds of ammunition and $90,200 in a Batman backpack. A third bedroom contained another bag with $257,000 inside and a 12 gauge lever action shotgun.

Elmir pleaded guilty to six charges including two counts of dealing with the proceeds of crime and firearm offences.

MOHAMMED Doudar was allegedly using a Woolworths shopping bag not for its intended use of carrying groceries but instead to hide a deadly weapon and ammunition.

Police allegedly made this discovery at Doudar’s Bexley home.

The 36-year-old truck driver and greenkeeper pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a modified Stalker brand pistol after police seized the weapon during a raid in March 2018.

The property, which Doudar rented, had a separate garage with three roller doors. Inside the coil of one of the roller doors police found a Stalker brand pistol, according to documents tendered in court. The gun was hidden inside a Woolw o r t h s shopping bag, which also contained a magazine and more than 100 cartridges.

“The basis of the offender’s possession of the pistol is that he could be reasonably expected to have known that the pistol was or in the premises of the garage,” the agreed facts state.

Court documents also revealed the pistol had been modified.

Following the police raid, Doudar was remanded in custody for about five months before he was granted bail.

The court heard Doudar’s wife had recently delivered an ultimatum to the 36-year-old, threatening to stay in Egypt unless he stopped drinking and gambling.

Since his release on bail, Doudar has volunteered at a Bardwell Valley golf club to land himself full-time work as a greenkeeper.

The court heard the married father was one of eight children and had been stressed by an increased family responsibility with his older brother in jail. Doudar himself also previously served time behind bars in relation to an armed robbery over a decade ago.

Judge Ian McClintock convicted Doudar and sentenced him to two years jail, to be served in the community.

FROM the outside it looked like a nondescript Western Sydney house, but it was allegedly being used as a drug and gun armoury by a western Sydney gang.

Police claimed a raid on the single storey home on Prairie Vale Rd Bankstown discovered the bare minimum of furniture, empty bedrooms and no people.

Inside was allegedly a collection of illegal firearms, almost 10kg of cocaine and just under 5kg of MDMA.

Police alleged in court the house was used as a storage facility by a gang that sold cocaine blocks featuring the likeness of infamous Columbian cocaine lord Pablo Escobar and the words “El Patron” which translates to “the boss” or “the lord” in Spanish.

Details of the house were revealed during the court case of one of the accused Western Sydney gang members, Mohammed Libdy, who was found not guilty of 15 charges relating to the alleged drug operations.

“This is a house the had been rented … by a person who when police went to speak to him, didn’t know anything about the fact that he was a tenant,” the Crown Prosecutor told the court.

In a shed at the rear of the house, police found a Honda Jazz, which had a secret compartment that was operated by “an elaborate set of switches”, the prosecutor told the court.

Libdy was arrested two years ago after police seized more than $600,000 in cash, 11 guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and $14 million worth of drugs in raids across the city’s southwest.

But when Libdy’s trial ended in the Downing Centre District Court last month, he was found not guilty of 15 charges, including large commercial cocaine supply, and gun possession.

“Mr Libdy strenuously denied these allegations and was vindicated,” his lawyer Mahmoud Abbas said.

Libdy pleaded guilty to charges relating to about 40gm of cocaine and $40,000 cash.

He is yet to be sentenced.
