You climbed the Himalayas to a monastery in Thyangboche with a 40kg backpack? I walked around a few different courses with a 35kg backpack at sea level. Even a 7.5km course with my backpack has me stopping twice for a breather. I very much doubt that you would be nearly 4km in elevation walking more than a kilometre anywhere with a 40kg backpack.

You obviously haven't a clue on what it is really like 'up there'. You probably don't even know what its like when you dip in elevation or where exactly it really is hard to suck it in - even with just a camera bag on.

Not really. The Sherpa love having bets on 'loads', like example of me and some guy from Bondi loaded with their loads and a line drawn. My pack was 60kg and felt more as I could only carry it one measly metre, while the Bondi guy managed just one metre more. Sherpa are so strong and acclimatised you have to see them to believe it.
Making the correct 'techniques' of the backpack - 40kg is do-able, but it took me two long hard weeks to feel remotely comfortable to carry it. I saw many non-Sherpa guys carry 60kg - real mountaineers, up there.
Doing Stonemasonry - it took me a full month to work myself up to carry 100kg (my max limit) stone slabs up stairs in Sydney by myself. Mere cardboard weight for my big Serbian boss.
Always a laugh when seeing beautifully toned Gym-bobs do Removalist. They only lasted 4 hours max in a day's work.
There are many tricks and techniques in carrying heavy loads. Having calf-muscles like hard bricks helps the Sherpas go a long way up those tracks and paths.
