Victoria's coronavirus state of emergency powers set to be extended until December 16

Victoria's state of emergency is set to be extended for another nine months, after negotiations between the Andrews government and the crossbench.
Key points:

The state of emergency gives legally enforceable powers to the Chief Health Officer
The penalties for young people who were fined for COVID breaches will be halved, and there will be changes to the appeals process for people with detention orders
The state of emergency will be extended until December 16

The government has won the support of the Greens, Reason Party and Animal Justice Party, to extend the powers until the middle of December.

A debate on the laws, which give the Chief Health Officer wide-ranging powers to enforce public health orders including hotel quarantine and mask wearing, is taking place in the Upper House this afternoon.

The bill has already passed the Lower House.

The government has agreed to halve the penalties for young people who are fined for COVID-19 breaches, and change the appeals processes for people with detention orders.

he may have to drop an atom bomb on melbourne to kill the last viral particle, but "so be it".

this is total war.

a society where someone may have to blow their nose is not a society worth living in.

if the victorian people are not up to defeating the scourge of bolscheivism (sorry runny noses), then it is better that they be cleansed by fire .

Victorians are good at Sport.
Nearly everything else - they're crap.
Even QLD Rugby Union sees the Vics as a bigger threat than the Waratahs (NSW) - who now seem to have their hands full with the Brumbies. No NSW v QLD state of origin here - the Brumbies and Rebels are in town now.

Africa and the Sudanese love Victoria - it's so much like back home. Cheesy

why is your war time premier lagging so badly behind Gladys

NSW is leading the way nationally, using almost 75 per cent of its more than 14,000 doses in the first week, Victoria and Queensland have fallen behind, using fewer than a third of the doses distributed to them.

Victoria used 3862 of its 12,870 doses in the first seven days.
