You have seriously lost the plot, Brian....
Women were not kept barefoot and pregnant etc - they were left in a protected environment while men went out and accepted all the hazards - and women in Australia received universal female suffrage at the same time as men did... there is not one argument that the raving feminists have that supports any water at all... and endlessly carrying on about some mythical past is not going to help the current situation where feminism is rapidly getting out of hand.
Hmmm. 'Mythical past.' Like your 'mythical past' in which women had the right to vote from the get go with men? Nah. Women did not get that right in Australia until 1902. Men only before that.
Quote:You should be asking yourself why you even discuss feminism in this context of a rape allegation - I said long ago that this was not a feminist issue at all - but a legal one and one covered in law for many millennia.
Nah again. I reckon men have had the view that women are to be objectified...you know, kept in cotton wool in a protected environment while men went out into all those hazards, ey?
Quote:Now on the subject of Porter and the alleged rape in 1988 - I find it absolutely out of order that Waleed Ali continues to speak of Porter and the victim in the one sentence etc - in other words, he is making it clear that in his mind that this rape did occur despite there being insufficient evidence to even proceed with an investigation, and he keeps plugging away at accusing Porter by referring to a victim who has not yet been proven to be a victim.
She is a victim of whatever circumstances led to her taking her own life. Porter is the alleged perpetrator of rape and she is the alleged victim of it.
Quote:For the dopey here and such - nobody KNOWS if Porter is innocent or guilty.... nobody KNOWS if this event took place.... if it did not, there is no victim.
What we do know is this. If she is telling the truth, we have a rapist as an Attorney General here in Australia. As you say, one or the other is lying. Which one? There are many questions left unaddressed. Many potential witnesses not yet out of the closet. There are historical comments made by her to friends in which she complains of the incident. I don't have a timeline so I cannot say whether they fit into the 'recent complaint' exception to the hearsay rule. We do know that Porter was in the same place as the woman was at the time she says the incident occurred. It seem he had at least 'opportunity.'
Quote:I'm afraid without evidence there is nothing to go on - and I am now concerned that some are calling for the kind of witch-controlled hunt that goes on in the universities these days with claims of any sexual offence at all... totally outside the Law.
Was the High Court conducting a witch-hunt on Dyson Heyden? No witch hunt is proposed here. For me, it is untenable that Porter retain the position of AG while we are in a situation of either he is or or not a rapist depending on whether we believe him of her. There has to be some sort of Inquiry (an Inquest in SA at least) set up by the PM so all becomes known to all.
Quote:THAT is what is the true problem here and now - and it is frankly disgusting that some are using this sad woman's death to further an agenda of undermining the rule of law in this nation.
The Rule of Law is not being undermined. One side of the coin is yelling.....'This bastard Porter is a rapist of a 16 year old virgin, and is using the Rule of Law to escape accountability and retain his position of immense power and influence.' The other side of the same coin is that the woman is lying and Porter is truly a victim of a heinous false allegation. It cannot be allowed to wallow at that level of uncertainty.
Quote:You would have to be blind to not see that the aim here is to have conviction by denunciation, as long as the denouncer is a woman.
Absurd. Given most victims of sexual assault are female, on most occasions of sexual assault the denouncer is inevitably going to be female. Should her complaint be dismissed out of hand or at all because of her gender?
