My father is 67 this year. And I would say that he has reached that age where getting over a cold takes a lot longer than what I had to endure as a child. He has diabetes, too. If he caught the virus, it could be a real serious illness for him.

For the likes of me, being 42 in a few weeks time, I am at the age where I should be more concerned about my diet, weight, and exercise routine than what a virus could do to me. A couple weeks in isolation (being that I live alone), I would only need to have a relative bring the groceries around one week. Work would be able to get on without me for 4 days.

yes, 67 with diabetes, a normal flu would not be so good for him.

I am in my late 50's and pretty fit, healthy, exercise moderately 5 times a week.
Cycle, yoga, swimming, gardening.

I get the flu shot as I was getting the flu often.
I think I would be quite ok with covid but will likely get a covid shot

The only reality that needs attention on this topic is your constant need to think that because you cannot handle a virus, it must mean that other people cannot handle a virus.
Im not diabetic or obese and I havent been ill for 30 years.  I am also on zero prescribed medications, how many you on? Every medication you are on effectively doubles your risk of dying or otherwise from Covid.  What they are finding in the US and the UK is that people on multiple serious medications are in the highest risk group for Covid. So for example, if someones got high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity they are in the highest risk group.   You seem to be focusing on the elderly as a reference to yourself being able to recover easily, but the elderly arent the most significant deaths simply because they are old , the reason they are dying is because most of them do have various illnesses. Plenty of very healthy and fit old people surviving. They had a 102 year old in Spain who sailed through it but she was a villager used to doing 10 hours of constant exercise a day and on a mediteranean diet all her life. And a significant issue appears to be amongst the young survivors is that lung function is severely compromised, they dont know how long this lasts. The one thing that Aqua keeps harping on about is absolutely correct, your best defence against this is not pretending that despite being an unhealthy couch potato you are going to have some sort of super immunity to this but getting out and getting as fit and as healthy as possible.

Very well said.
I agree 100 %

that is it in a nutshell
' ......  your best defense against this is getting out and getting as fit and as healthy as possible ...'

My mother is 95 years old and on no medication.
She sleeps all year with her windows open for fresh air.
She live with doors and windows open all year.
This is in a cold region of NZ.
She goes for a walk every day and gardens every day. It is really hard for her to do that, she does not do it because she wants to.
She does it because she has to. That is what she told me.

The cold is good for you. We live lives too sheltered, too comfortable.
Get cold in winter, get hot in summer, sweat every day.

With all the advice and information about health and fitness handed to me in the form of videos, publications, books, and things told to me since high school physical education, I should have no reason to not have a body like a triathlete. But, it is difficult to undo obesity and get off diabetes medication when you are undergoing depression that cannot be explained.

I have taken antipsychotic medication 5 years ago and I have been a regular user of xigduo since the start of 2019. Both medications were necessary to right myself for one reason or the other. And as a diagnosed schizophrenic, it is difficult to be able to control your thought process and be able to function properly in public. But antipsychotic medication has its limits when you have cleared up any chemical imbalance of the brain. You can go off that medication for a long time whilst you are high functioning. As for my xigduo medication, it is necessary to clear up excessive glucose in the bloodstream to make sure my body is not getting damaged.

But, in either case, these medications are not going to prolong the duration of symptoms from contracting of the virus for me in the future. Not taking the medication would probably increase the likelihood of catching the virus and having to suffer from it.

Btw, unless you have been living in isolation for the last 30 years, I doubt very much you have not been ill in that time.

[. So, at best, I can only use youtube videos to have some idea of how a diabetic would be able to handle the coronavirus. High blood sugar supposedly increases the likelihood of someone contracting the coronavirus.

Really, you sit there and think your best possible source of informatino in this case is Youtube. FMD

Are they recommending the jab for people with compromised immune systems?  I read somewhere they weren't.

Quote:
Certain diseases or conditions may cause a weakened immune system placing people at greater risk of suffering complications if they become sick from COVID-19.  These include:

    heart disease
chronic lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis
    kidney disease
    poorly controlled diabetes
    poorly controlled hypertension
    cancer
    moderate to severe asthma
    genetic immune deficiencies.

I would suspect not. This is why its important for everyone who does not have a compromised immune system to be immunised. It protects those who can't get the vaccine.

Thank you. I have COPD and don't want to get the jab!

A mask protects those people with compromised immune systems as well.  I insist on people visiting to wear one because I can't.   Wink

Its one of the issues I have about how people perceive vaccination, e.g. I dont need to be vaccinated against COVID because I'm young and it wont affect me. Its not about you, its about others.

Exactly!

Just like the Rubella vaccine. I'm certainly not going to get pregnant (I'm male) but the vaccine is given to males too to protect females by cutting the spread.  Cool

No you aren't, they've been tested. Argument from incredulity about testing shouldnt apply here

I have repeatedly shown you that these vaccines have not undergone the standard of testing previously required, they have been rushed through. And Im certainly not going to take a vaccination which has not been tested appropriately for side effects so that people like UnsubRocky dont have to.

You have shown nothing apart from internet conspiracies. As I posted earlier, I raised these concerns with someone who works in the medical testing field and she was quite happy with the way things have been implemented for this vaccine.
