Academic and Canberra resident Hamilton is a former Greens candidate who has evidently reached his limit of tolerance for green goofiness:

Electric scooters are supposed to be a green alternative to polluting vehicles, but a lifecycle analysis by German researchers showed that these short-lived and resource-intensive vehicles have higher carbon emissions than diesel buses and hybrid cars, and are only marginally better than petrol-powered motorbikes.

In Canberra, as elsewhere, part of their carbon cost arises from the fleet of diesel vans that drive around the city each day fishing the scooters out of the lake, replacing their batteries and transporting them to popular hubs.

The devices are, however, extremely efficient at hurting people:

Within three months of their launch, Canberra's hospitals had 60 e-scooter riders presenting at accident and emergency departments (where ACT taxpayers foot the bill) ...

These scooters have sent more Canberrans to hospital than has the coronavirus, and in much less time.

Around the world, serious accidents involving e-scooters have become such a danger that countries like Germany and Singapore and cities like San Francisco and Paris are banning them, on footpaths or outright.

Riding an e-scooter through San Francisco would be … interesting. You need at least a Mustang to stand even half a chance around that place.

Canberra's experiment with rental e-scooters has failed. Like other enlightened cities around the world, we should ban them.

Just like Bob Brown, Hamilton seems to be an eco-nimby.

You mean like leaving them at points where there is not as much requirement, leaving them to be transported to different spots? eg a big requirement at say a spot on the lake and much smaller requirements at drop off points. Or shouldn't we look at that picture?

Poor petal. He just can't find the words. What did you think wrong petal? That there were no "hotspot" for pickups? That there were no "hotspots" for dropoffs? That the "hotspots" were the same so it made no difference?

So apart from your shoot from the lip "style"; you have no cogent reasoning?

If it was that "dropoffs" included in the lake, they could be picked up while doing the other rounds.
