Read the script as given to you... For the next fortnight you're effectively not the president... You do what you're told and just maybe you'll avoid jail...

But I doubt he could avoid jail without a deal...

Something along the lines of: That he is never seen or heard in a political context again after 20 January.

This is a deal both parties would sign up for. Nearly 75 million people voted for him. That can easily be transformed into raw power.

Jailing him is to risk a split in the US, the effect of which could last as long as the effects of the Civil War.

Letting him wander the country holding rallies every second week, could cause a civil war.

The one chance they've probably offered him is to (and pardon the aggrandisement of this dog), is to act like General Robert E Lee at the end of the war, gracious in defeat and committing the remainder of his life to healing the nation... Even a nation that did not grant him a pardon nor restore his citizenship in his lifetime.

I know, its a big ask for a debilitated and congenitally deranged nutjob...

But I'd bet, that's the only out he's been given.
