Die, dear? You, dear?

Come come. One can only die once, no?

As every schoolboy knows.

New South Wales.... 45,098 new cases and 9 deaths.

Victoria................. 51,356 new cases and 9 deaths.

WA....................... 0 new cases and 0 deaths.

Hmm, I wonder why   Undecided

ACT..........................1,305 cases and 0 deaths (so far).

Queensland.............. 11,174 cases and 2 deaths.

Tasmania.................. 2,223 cases and 0 deaths (so far).

South Australia.......... 3,707 cases and 2 deaths (yesterday, no numbers for today yet).

Update: 4,274 cases and 5 deaths for South Australia today.

Northern Territory...... 594 new cases (the true 'Gold Standard' Howard Springs quarantine facility for overseas "returned travellers" served them well unlike the other States' city hotels - until the NT foolishly scrapped quarantine after they reopened their borders on December 20th and relied on vaccination and tests which were obviously as big a failure as they were for the other now Covid infested States).

WA.......................... 0 new cases and 0 deaths.

Hmm, I'm also wondering why? Undecided

Be funny if you're riding it prematurely in a hearse ey?  Roll Eyes

People die their own deaths, not statistical ('premature') deaths.

thats a tiny tiny tiny number of deaths considering the number of infections.

this is a very mild disease

China and WA are going great guns but China is only holding out until the winter corona games are finished, McGowan looks like he is in it for the long haul waiting for another variant.

I suspect we will have a problem in WA when we open up
The childrens hospital had 64 patients waiting in emergency because there were no beds available
That was the week before Christmas
I think the plan is to open up in Feb and get past the peak infections before the winter flu builds up the numbers in hospitals

Well, my elderly aunt and I intend to make the most of the next 4 weeks because there's a definite possibility we won't be leaving the house after February 5th except for essential shopping (if the supermarket shelves are not empty like what's happening over east) and we'll also go out for the occasional drive, only getting out of the car where there's not a lot of people around.

Found this cartoon this morning which sums things up here at the moment rather nicely, I believe.

If WA want the virus, Queensland is a big example. Do you have enough test for spiking cases or hospital beds? Can you afford the supply chain or transportation to be stopped by virus? ... A lot of questions to be answered before opening. It is better to setup a set of conditions and open up slowly.

incorrect.

people are currently , recently double vaxxed.

and so their immuntiy is currently at it s peak and will only decline over time.

it is safer to get the disease when your immunity is at its peak .

ie   right now

a state of flourishing

Still in the fantasy world of 'aqualand', I see.

The only things that are 'flourishing' in the rest of Australia are Covid cases, hospitalisations and sadly, deaths.

Aqua's problem with WA is that we don't follow the conservative narrative. Hard borders don't work, mandates don't work and economies suffer.

WA has a massive surplus and strong economy whilst the eastern states, who have opened up have seen their spending slump to "lockdown" levels.

Despite being "open for business" spending across dining and retail in the eastern states has dropped considerably.

incorrect.

Being double vaccinated is almost totally ineffective against Omicron.

Everyone (or as many people as possible) need to have their booster shots and so far very few people have had them.

Interesting opinion piece in today's West Australian by Andrew Miller about the impending reopening of WA on February 5th.

He says that soon after the 'sugar hit' of Love Actually type scenes of joyous reunions at the airport the majority of West Australians will then experience huge reductions in health, freedom and business. Just like what has happened in the other States.

He hopes Mark McGowan has been paying attention to all of this and tries to make sure we are as prepared as we can possibly be if we do reopen in 4 weeks time.

Don't fool yourself by vaccination like politicians. 93% vaccinated in NSW and still over 40, 000 contracted with virus a day. What's a "joke"? even flu vaccines won't be like this. Prevention works better than vaccination on COVID-19
