‘Not ideal’: WA’s reopening date to coincide with national peak in COVID cases

Quote:
Western Australia’s reopening could bring about a tidal wave of COVID-19 cases with the date expected to coincide with the peak of Omicron infections in other Australian states.

Premier Mark McGowan has committed to reopening WA’s border to vaccinated interstate and international travellers on February 5, pending a catastrophe.

Are you sure about that, Mark?

It would be absolute insanity to open up WA on February 5th after what's happening in the rest of Australia.

Assuming of course that Covid isn't already 'on the loose' here thanks to idiot backpackers and the never ending flood of overseas Covid cases still being flown in and the State government still trying to quarantine them in not fit for purpose city hotels.

I doubt very much that we'll open up on February 5.

By then, the country will be in a state of emergency.

WA needs to stick to it's guns & keep it's borders shut ....

and from what has happened here since they were opened & what's happened in NSW & Vic where they are about to reintroduce harsh restrictions(de ja vu you dopey Tnucs) Palaszczuk should have kept QLDs borders shut.

Our public health systems are overrun, understaffed & under resourced to deal with
highly contagious wave of the "very mild" Omicron variant.

Idiots.... those here know who those idiots are.

Should have left the double up because it appears some here need telling more than twice how stupid they are.

Certainly is here in regional QLD ... no tissues, no toilet paper, no domestos type cleaner  in Woolies today.....

many other food stock items not on the shelves.

If WA can still get COVID under control, we should choose Mark McGowan as our next Premier Minister rather than idiot Scomo.

With 90%+  vaccination rates, what exactly will the 'catastrophe' look like?

And if there is going to be STILL a catastrophrpe despute 90%+ vaccination rates - what was the point of vaccinations?

You can't  have it both ways, high vax rates AND still carastrophising.

All of the 'modelling' that was done regarding vaccinations and opening borders, etc. was done with Delta.

Then Omicron came along and 'changed the game'.

All of our pollies (except Mark McGowan) were too slow to understand (or deliberately ignored) this.

Would be nice but I do believe most of us here in WA would not want to lose him to Canberra.

Correct

Omicron is about 1/10 as deadly
So whatever modelling we had for delta
We should only be 1/10 as concerned with omicron
It is going to sleep through the community and provide very good herd immunity
And it should all be over in a couple of weeks

Victoria put up with 260 days of lockdown with nothing to show for it
Now all the eastern states have to put up with is maybe 30 days of people having bad head Colds
And then we can resume human flourishing

People who are so risk averse that they are scared of a head cold
Really need the help of our mental health services
To treat their insane and unrealistic death anxiety

Got any proof of that?

Because the World Health Organization begs to differ.

The head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned on Thursday against describing the Omicron variant as "mild" amid a "tsunami of cases" overwhelming health systems across the world.

And, where will this fabled "herd immunity" come from for a virus that continues to mutate plus it is able to infect people more than once?

You sound like most of our politicians with their 'heads in the sand' approach which has allowed this Covid tsunami to be unleashed on most of Australia.

The WHO have made numerous misleading statements with Kung Flu starting with no evidence of human to human transmission.

The WHO redefined herd immunity claiming we can get if from vaccination despite those who make the vaccines saying this will be impossible.

Quote:
AstraZeneca Scientist Says Delta Variant Makes Herd Immunity Impossible. Here's Why

Speaking at a UK parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, Sir Andrew Pollard, a professor of pediatric infection and immunity at the University of Oxford, said that achieving herd immunity is "not a possibility" now that the Delta variant is circulating.

Some experts had hoped that herd immunity could be reached with COVID-19, as was the case with measles, which is also highly infectious.

But growing evidence suggests that, with the Delta variant, fully vaccinated people can still transmit the virus.

"We don't have anything which will stop that transmission to other people," Pollard said.

https://www.sciencealert.com/delta-variant-means-we-can-rule-out-herd-immunity-s...

NSW and VIC are 2 of the most highly vaxxed places on earth yet cases are exploding among the vaxxed.

Once upon a time the WHO might have been great these days they're next to useless.

Why did they redefine herd immunity i wonder how much big pharma contributes to the WHO budget.
