‘Not ideal’: WA’s reopening date to coincide with national peak in COVID cases

Quote:
Western Australia’s reopening could bring about a tidal wave of COVID-19 cases with the date expected to coincide with the peak of Omicron infections in other Australian states.

Premier Mark McGowan has committed to reopening WA’s border to vaccinated interstate and international travellers on February 5, pending a catastrophe.

Are you sure about that, Mark?

It would be absolute insanity to open up WA on February 5th after what's happening in the rest of Australia.

Assuming of course that Covid isn't already 'on the loose' here thanks to idiot backpackers and the never ending flood of overseas Covid cases still being flown in and the State government still trying to quarantine them in not fit for purpose city hotels.

I doubt very much that we'll open up on February 5.

By then, the country will be in a state of emergency.

Food supply shortages coupled with a drastic rise in COVID cases is affecting the entire country.

Except for WA, that is.

I wonder why that might be   Undecided

Went for lunch today at Baci Cafe in North Perth Plaza with my elderly aunt (Donna and the staff at Baci are fantastic, by the way. Great food).

After lunch we had a look around Coles and bought a few things we needed but there were no shortages of anything as far as we could see. Not even toilet paper... plenty available.

Oh, we can drop the masks (for the time being at least) from 6pm tonight except for 'high risk' areas like hospitals, aged care homes and public transport but we'll be taking a few masks with us whenever we leave the house from tomorrow just in case.

Head of WA's COVID-19 contact tracing reveals massive effort to gear up for state's reopening

Quote:
Contact tracers are gearing up ahead of Western Australia's anticipated reopening date, as more and more locations around the state are listed as potential exposure sites.

Umm... wouldn't it be easier (not to mention a hell of a lot safer after seeing the Covid disaster which has happened to the rest of Australia) NOT to open up on February 5th?

At least not until everyone has a chance to get their booster shots?

If I see staged photos and videos of 'joyous reunions' at Perth Airport on February 5th (like we saw in the other now Covid infested States when they reopened) I'll have to try very hard not to throw up... or throw something at the TV screen.

Mark McGowan is obviously under incredible pressure to reopen the border from ScoMo and big business... let's hope he can hold out for at least another 6 months or so but I doubt he will be able to.

the easy route is usually the wrong route

its easier to buy a big mac then to construct a salad
its easier to drink to free yourself up then to become awesome whilst sober
its easier to watch porn then find a quality woman
its easier to be a spectator then a player
its easier to be an employee then an employer
its easier to take steroid then lift weights in the gym
its easier to give your kids an ipad then take them camping

and yes it is easier to sit in a safe space then move forward with a spirit of adventure

its also more mediocre as the easy path always tends to be

Still in the fantasy world of 'aqualand', I see.

The only things that are 'flourishing' in the rest of Australia are Covid cases, hospitalisations and sadly, deaths.

Indeed.

More death. A shortage of workers. Food shortages.

So much flourishing.

Not in WA though.  I wonder why   Undecided

Pity the WA State election wasn't being held this year in March instead of last year because I'm absolutely certain Mark McGowan wouldn't be opening up (or even be thinking about it) on February 5th if that was the case.

It is not covid decimating the workforce, it is the covid rules.

During lockdown - 'allowed' 1 hour exercise outdoors. Considered, scientific, sensible?? No, of course not but fineable.

Now - stay out doors, open windows, get exercise and sun.

Same health officials advice, 6 months apart.

Covid action, climate action - the same mindless 'do something' yappers.

Hitting the Johnny Walker Blue, old boy?

We don't have lockdown in Perth.

We don't even have to wear masks much any more.

We will all die, carl, aqua, me,, all of us.

Who has the better life, though, the man who shelters in place or the man who takes life by the scruff of the neck and rides it to the end.
