Like we're seeing all around Australia right now.

Carl would also like to believe that when the time comes I'll have a 'ring side seat' to the above scenario (I'll even offer to fan the flames to keep them hot and strong from time to time as well).

We Australians like to think we’re a tough lot but the truth is we’re a bunch of bedwetters. It’s time we found our balls.

For months we have been told that when Covid restrictions eased case numbers would naturally increase but there was no need for panic.

And so what happened? Case numbers increased and we sharted our britches.

This is the inconvenient truth that Covid has exposed.

There are two Australias: One is the rugged, relaxed and confident character of our national mythos and the other is the anxious, angry and cosseted character who demands unconditional protection from all life’s slings and arrows.

When you get right down to it, there are essentially just two basic options for dealing with this disease: One is that we lockdown and lockout forever and the other is that we accept that eventually most of us will get Covid in some form or another.

This is what health experts have been saying ad nauseam as they pushed for higher vaccination rates and prepared us for life after lockdown. It seems that most of us nodded our heads but few of us actually listened.

Let's hope that Mark McGowan is smart enough (and I'm sure he is) not to allow what I've heard is happening in Queensland, South Australia and probably Tasmania now as well where people are getting tested for Covid prior to boarding the planes in Sydney and Melbourne and after they arrive in the abovementioned States they're allowed to wander around wherever and whenever they want to until the test results come back which could be days later.

And, when you also have the slackness described in these two Whirlpool forum posts happening its no wonder that Covid has 'escaped' and well on the way to making the abovementioned States end up like NSW and Victoria.

Thank goodness Mark McGowan has held off with opening WA up until February 5th so he can see the 'mistakes' being made by the rest of Australia and hopefully avoid them here.

On Feb 5, you'll be in exactly the same position. That's the point of vaccines: high case loads, low hospitalisations and deaths.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

And, here we go...

Queensland couple test positive after arriving on flight from Brisbane

Quote:
COVID has crossed WA’s hard border, with two positive cases confirmed from interstate visitors.

A couple aged in their 30s flew in from Queensland before the State was elevated to medium risk.

The couple arrived in Perth on December 19 on Virgin Australia flight VA470 from Brisbane.

They have not spent any time in the community and went straight into self-quarantine at a home in Perth’s east with four relatives.

All four relatives have so far tested negative for COVID.

It’s not yet known whether the couple have the Omicron strain of the virus.

The new exposure sites include Perth Airport on Sunday from 10pm to 11pm and a 7-Eleven store in Midland on Monday at 12pm.

Fingers crossed this isn't going to ruin our Christmas like what's happening everywhere else in Australia.

Hint for Marky Mark... when you announce a border closure you need to do it IMMEDIATELY. Not 3 days later.

Anyway, we can't have a Covid outbreak here in WA just yet, wouldn't want to miss all of those staged videos and photos of joyous reunions at Perth Airport from February 5th like we've seen from all those now Covid infested other States, would we?

All of a sudden SA is having COVID cases! I wonder how that could have happened? Not!

Another foolish State (with a Liberal government, of course) which had ZERO Covid cases for a very long time until they recently reopened and decided to 'let it rip'.

Another 12 new cases in SA today and the number of exposure locations continue to grow (the whole of Adelaide was listed as an exposure location a few days back).

With Christmas just a week and a half away can you imagine anyone in their right mind saying they've been in an exposure location and then having to isolate themselves for 7 or 14 days?

This also explains why the number of people checking in with Covid apps or pen and paper registers has started to drop dramatically in the lead up to Christmas.

Here in Perth I've spoken to a number of people on my 'shopping travels' this morning and they've all said the same thing I said yesterday... when WA reopens on February 5th and Covid gets loose they will be leaving their homes for essential reasons only which doesn't bode well for the WA economy.

I feel sorry for all the small businesses which will probably (once again) bear the brunt of reduced income with people staying home because they don't want to get Covid.

Alec Baldwin has still killed more people than the Omicron variant.

Wow, Alec Baldwin has killed 12 people (so far)?  Shocked

UK Omicron deaths rise to 12

December 20 2021 - 8:12PM

Quote:
Twelve people in Britain have died with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab says, refusing to rule out a tightening of social restrictions before Christmas.

Quote:
In addition to the 12 deaths, Raab said 104 people were currently in hospital with Omicron. Officials warned last week that hospitalisations could hit new highs as the effects of the latest surge work their way through the population.

And, that's just in the UK.

That would make Alec a mass murderer, on his way to joining the lofty ranks of Scotty from Marketing and the rest of our useless politicians who knowingly allowed Covid (up to and including Omicron) into Australia and let it 'escape' causing 1254 deaths and counting.

Meanwhile, WA's daily 'rag' The West Australian continues with its long 'tradition' of ramping up the fear factor to sell more newspapers.

Who here in WA can forget their huge
YOU WILL GET VIRUS
headline from March or April 2020?

Today's 'effort' is
XMAS COVID CASES ALERT
then below it we have Majority back Feb 5 to end hard border as now it's Mr 77%

Wow, I didn't know until today that the population of WA was only
811
which is the number of people they surveyed. Probably in the wealthier suburbs too, I'll bet.

Of the 811, 46% believed February 5 was the "right time" to let COVID-19 in.

18% believed the date was "too late" (despite the Omicron surge in cases elsewhere).

The remaining 36% believed the border opening was "too soon".

Not surprisingly, older West Australians believe the virus is being let in too soon while the younger ones support the February 5th reopening date.

As I've said before - if Mark McGowan goes ahead with this very risky reopening I hope he won't be making all the same mistakes the other States have made but at the moment it looks like that's exactly what is going to happen.

* 1162 interstate arrival and departure flights and 260 international flights scheduled for Perth Airport in the week beginning February 5th.
* Just 227 interstate and 61 international flights this week for comparison.

What could possibly go wrong? Roll Eyes
But, I'm sure Qantas, Virgin and all the other airlines will be thrilled.

Bit of a worry too when the new Health Minister is also telling us it's time to open up. Wonder who's pulling her strings?

this brutal disease is devestating NSW.

number of people with omicron currently in ICU

zero

such a god send.  you really want to catch this

you would be crazy to let delta in but you should be paying people with omicron to come to WA

I think you'll find the WA government will renege on the February 5 border reopening.

Already the AMA state president has already signalled that a review of the issue is 'highly likely'.

What will follow over the next few weeks will likely be a gradual shifting of political rhetoric towards reopening the border closer to March if not later.

I hope so, MeisterEckhart.

As an example, my nearly 92 year old aunt has her Covid booster shot booked in for January 28th, Mine is a week later on February 4th which is a bit too close for comfort if the border does open February 5th.

I'll be keeping a close eye out to see if they change the timing of the boosters from 5 months to 4 or even 3 and if they do I'll be asking to have ours done sooner.

The best place to watch is not another Australian state, but New Zealand.

They have announced:
extending border restrictions to end of February,
booster shots brought forward to 4 months after the second shot,
48 hour testing prior to entry into the country,
all passengers on any inbound flight with even one passenger testing positive for omicron are to be treated as close contacts and forced into quarantine.

My guess is WA will be watching NZ as a political 'canary in the coalmine'.
