Another foolish State (with a Liberal government, of course) which had ZERO Covid cases for a very long time until they recently reopened and decided to 'let it rip'.

Another 12 new cases in SA today and the number of exposure locations continue to grow (the whole of Adelaide was listed as an exposure location a few days back).

With Christmas just a week and a half away can you imagine anyone in their right mind saying they've been in an exposure location and then having to isolate themselves for 7 or 14 days?

This also explains why the number of people checking in with Covid apps or pen and paper registers has started to drop dramatically in the lead up to Christmas.

Here in Perth I've spoken to a number of people on my 'shopping travels' this morning and they've all said the same thing I said yesterday... when WA reopens on February 5th and Covid gets loose they will be leaving their homes for essential reasons only which doesn't bode well for the WA economy.

I feel sorry for all the small businesses which will probably (once again) bear the brunt of reduced income with people staying home because they don't want to get Covid.

Yeah, but as long as Qantas, Virgin, Flight Centre, tourism and the international student 'industry' are thriving too bad, so sad for everyone else, eh?

carl  , omicron is going to infect every australian in the next 6 months. thankfully it doesnt cause respiratory illness.  just tiredness and headache.

the average chode hiding at home is already tired and has a headache from holding his head still whilst he absorbs endless stimuli from his tv.

he wont even notice the difference.

and the rare men who want to have adventures can get back to thriving.

this is what steven covey calls a win/win.

now run along and forget about covid.

aqua declares the pandemic over.

i know that rough if you are a pfizer executive or a chode

Phew! Thank goodness for that.

Almost as big a relief as Scotty from Marketing telling us that Omicron is nothing to worry about.

And, I'm sure both of you have exactly the same medical qualifications and expertise (i.e. NONE).

One thing's for sure, it doesn't look like our hospitals will be prepared for the arrival of Covid in February.

COVID is coming to WA: Will hospitals be ready when border reopens on February 5?

Quote:
WA’s Health Minister claims he is essentially building the equivalent of an additional Perth hospital by opening up more than 500 new beds during the COVID pandemic.

But it hasn’t stopped almost endless Code Yellows, where WA hospitals have been at capacity.

One Code Yellow was even called as Monday’s media conference on COVID unfolded.

So, no different to every other Australian State it would seem.

We might be getting Covid here in WA earlier than expected.

Three truck drivers test positive for COVID-19 after spending time in Western Australia

Quote:
Three fully vaccinated truck drivers from South Australia have tested positive for COVID-19 after spending time in Western Australia.

The cases stem from two different trucks that entered the state on December 9 carrying four drivers, with all testing negative for the virus at the border before being allowed in.

The first truck was carrying two drivers, who were in WA from December 9 to December 11.

Both returned positive PCR tests for COVID-19 after returning to South Australia.

"So it is possible both men were infectious during the three days that they were in Western Australia," Health Minister Roger Cook said.

Quote:
Separately, one of two drivers who were in the other truck, which similarly entered WA on December 9, has also tested positive after returning to South Australia.

I'm sure aqua will be delighted.

We already have freedom.

No masks.

No lockdowns.

No restrictions.

It's life as normal here in Perth.

A big shout out to today's West Australian for reminding everyone (unintentionally, of course) what reopening WA and the rest of Australia is really all about.

Doesn't matter if the peasants have to stay in their homes for fear of getting Covid after February 5th (with the resulting disastrous effects on small businesses, etc.) as long as the wealthy can start hopping onto planes again and travelling to Rome and other overseas destinations (the Perth to London flights will also be resuming soon).

The Letters to the Editor section is also full of people 'gushing' about how wonderful it is that WA is opening up on February 5th. Just one letter complaining about still needing to be tested for Covid and still requiring a G2G pass.

Wonder if the paper will give 'equal space' in tomorrow's letter section for all those who believe opening up is a really, really bad idea (especially after watching what's happening to the rest of Australia)?

Alan Joyce has no doubt been jumping for joy as I'm sure Jayne "we need to open up even if people die" from Virgin and Graham "better open all the States up soon or I'll take them to court" from Flight Centre have as well now that they can go back to counting their millions.

Can't remember where I read it or who said it but someone remarked a while back that some people would be prepared to stand on top of a pile of dead bodies to defend their wealth.

Can't argue with that after what we've seen and heard since the start of the pandemic.

Carl is an example of how Covid is as much a psychic epidemic as a viral one. Lots of people are psychically 'infected' and have no ability to find their way back to equilibrium.
Covid, of course, is not the only psychic epidemic. As Jung said, "masses are always breeding grounds for psychic epidemics". With social media and electronic communication it has ben expanded and sped up.  More and more people are unmoored from what sustains psychic equilibrium and thus become particularly succeptible to psychic epidemics.

Carl is an example of someone who likes to believe there's a special place in hell reserved for those who put money and the economy ahead of peoples' lives.

Like we're seeing all around Australia right now.

Carl would also like to believe that when the time comes I'll have a 'ring side seat' to the above scenario (I'll even offer to fan the flames to keep them hot and strong from time to time as well).

Sadly, it doesn't look like a lot of small businesses all around Australia will be thriving after borders are opened, Covid runs loose and people don't want to leave their homes.

This is a restaurant in Gympie, Queensland last night after Queensland's border was opened last Monday and compulsory masks were reintroduced yesterday.

Seen several more hospitality venues reporting a big downturn in customers in Queensland yesterday as well. Same thing will happen everywhere in Australia (including here in WA) after the borders reopen.

And...

Saturday 18 December – coronavirus cases in Queensland:

• 24 new locally acquired cases
• 5 new interstate acquired cases
• 2 new overseas acquired cases

But, as I said, as long as airlines and other associated big businesses are making money who cares about small business? Tragic.

That's right, Carl. What Mark McGowan opening up WA to the world is really all about is Australians being allowed to leave.

I know, I know, so unfair. Still, you can always import a few to compensate. I'm sure there are plenty of people in Bangladesh or Sri Lanka or even the east coast of Australia, happy to travel over to WA to help pick crops or pack goods or work in your convenience stores - all the jobs you need filled while you're busy mining your iron ore.

The University of Western Australia can get some students, the Margaret River can get some tourists, your service sector can get some badly-needed labour, and WA can keep on keeping on while the trains load the ships and sail away with all that red dirt.

Some call it capitalism. Others call it globalisation. Others call it being awesome. I call it carrying on.

You?

We Australians like to think we’re a tough lot but the truth is we’re a bunch of bedwetters. It’s time we found our balls.

For months we have been told that when Covid restrictions eased case numbers would naturally increase but there was no need for panic.

And so what happened? Case numbers increased and we sharted our britches.

This is the inconvenient truth that Covid has exposed.

There are two Australias: One is the rugged, relaxed and confident character of our national mythos and the other is the anxious, angry and cosseted character who demands unconditional protection from all life’s slings and arrows.

When you get right down to it, there are essentially just two basic options for dealing with this disease: One is that we lockdown and lockout forever and the other is that we accept that eventually most of us will get Covid in some form or another.

This is what health experts have been saying ad nauseam as they pushed for higher vaccination rates and prepared us for life after lockdown. It seems that most of us nodded our heads but few of us actually listened.

Joe Hildebrand

So, Carl, please take the plastic sheets off the mattress and grow a set.
