Really? Under what circumstances (other than those elite exempted under very specific circumstances) can anyone else exit WA and return without quarantine?

i think the premier needs to be informed that you are intending to try to illegally return to WA after visiting melbourne.

The WA health websire lists melbourne as extreme risk and does not grant approvals to enter WA except for the rare people on franks list  (MP's and military commanders for example).

so whats our exempt category?

Nothing illegal about it at all.

I can go, return, and continue work the next day without breaking any laws.

If you "think" otherwise, let our wonderful Premier know.

Let me know how that goes, okay?

Yes, they were.

Yep.

Three claims, and all three wrong.

No toll roads, no daylight savings, no pokies, no COVID, no masks, no restrictions.

Life is good   Smiley

Thank you Mr McGowan.

what on earth have pokies and daylight saving got to do with ...

Oh, I'm just rubbing it in.

Thanks to Labor governments we don't have those things.

And, thanks to Labor governments we don't have COVID, masks, restrictions, or lockdowns.

Life is pretty good here   Smiley

If the reason you can do this is because you are one of the few exempt, it would hardly be the experience of 99% of west australians.

Given that, it's not worth raising it as proof that the state is actually open to residents in the way you imply.

Another one for all the idiots who believe home quarantine is a great idea.

Woman allegedly breached COVID self-quarantine to shop in Fremantle after arriving from Darwin

Quote:
A woman has been charged after allegedly breaching her COVID quarantine to go shopping in Fremantle.

The 55-year-old woman from Leda, in Perth’s southern suburbs, arrived in Perth on a flight from Darwin on November 19.

In line with WA’s strict quarantine requirements, the woman was ordered to isolate at home for 14 days.

However, police allege the woman breached quarantine on several occasions, including by going to a clothes store in Fremantle.

She is also alleged to have stayed at another property, where she was not permitted to self-quarantine, and had not taken a 48-hour COVID test.

Its about time the authorities started making a real example of people like this with massive fines and/or prison time.

Quote:
Flight passengers are also ordered to have a health screening at Perth Airport and must wear masks to get to travel to their quarantine venue.

Hope they're doing a better job of screening here in Perth than what they're doing in Queensland.  Roll Eyes

Shopping in Fremantle?   Undecided

Hardly the place to go shopping.

Anyway, keep up the hard border, Mr Premier.

Seconded. Smiley

Especially with the developing Covid situation in South Australia (after being open for only 2 days).

https://twitter.com/SAHealth/status/1463785350745128962

And, forget Lambda and Mu (have these arrived in Australia yet?).... here comes the 'new and improved'.... *drum roll*...
Nu variant
.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10238113/New-Botswana-variant-32-horrif...

Quote:
British experts have sounded the alarm over a new Covid variant believed to have emerged in Botswana that is the most mutated version of the virus yet.

Only 10 cases of the strain, which could eventually be named 'Nu', have been detected so far.

But it has already been spotted in three countries, suggesting the variant is more widespread.

It carries 32 mutations, many of which suggest it is highly transmissible and vaccine-resistant, and has more alterations to its spike protein than any other variant.

And, just like its predecessors it seems to have the 'magical' ability to teleport itself around the world. Simply amazing!  Roll Eyes

Quote:
Scientists told MailOnline, however, that its unprecedented number of mutations might work against it and make it 'unstable', preventing it from becoming widespread.

They said there was 'no need to be overly concerned' because there were no signs yet that it was spreading rapidly.

Yeah, OK. But, I'm sure we all heard the same thing about the original Covid strain at the start of the pandemic nearly 2 years ago.

Nek minnit... over 5 million dead (and counting) worldwide.

And... here we go... Mark is finally 'caving in' just like the rest of Australia.

https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/covid-communications/covid-19-coronavirus-get...

Quote:
Thanks to the efforts of the Western Australian community, WA will transition safely, easing its borders on Saturday 5 February, 2022.

All of these businesses (and Scotty from Marketing) that have been putting pressure on State governments to have everything reopened may find that it backfires on them badly here in WA just like it probably will in other States that are now "living (and dying) with Covid".

For one thing, from February 5th my elderly aunt and I will only be going out of the house (and spending money) when it is absolutely essential. I'm not risking her life (and mine) especially since I've been hearing that even the 2 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine we've both had are totally ineffective against Omicron.

Wonder if Mark is aware of that?

I strongly suspect a lot of people (especially the elderly) will feel and respond exactly the same way. Businesses won't be making too much money if people are not in the shops spending and staying home instead because they're worried about getting Covid.

Oh, and...

Quote:
* provide proof of being double dose vaccinated against COVID-19 when entering certain businesses, venues and large events.

*check in using the SafeWA app or a manual contact register.

Wonder who's going to be checking and enforcing that seeing as no-one appears to be doing it (check in using the SafeWA app or a manual contact register only) at the moment and LOTS of people here still don't bother checking in.

I've also heard that hardly anyone is checking in lately in the other States that have allowed Covid in because they don't want to be notified that they've been in a Covid 'hotspot' and have to spend Christmas in quarantine. Can't say I blame them.

Also...

Quote:
Masks will be required in high risk indoor settings, including:

*on public transport, taxis and ride share vehicles

While I agree with that (even though it wouldn't be happening if we don't allow Covid in) what will probably happen is a lot of people who normally use public transport will just use their cars instead causing even more congestion on the roads. Brilliant.

Total madness... all for the sake of the almighty dollar. As usual.

Another foolish State (with a Liberal government, of course) which had ZERO Covid cases for a very long time until they recently reopened and decided to 'let it rip'.

Another 12 new cases in SA today and the number of exposure locations continue to grow (the whole of Adelaide was listed as an exposure location a few days back).

With Christmas just a week and a half away can you imagine anyone in their right mind saying they've been in an exposure location and then having to isolate themselves for 7 or 14 days?

This also explains why the number of people checking in with Covid apps or pen and paper registers has started to drop dramatically in the lead up to Christmas.

Here in Perth I've spoken to a number of people on my 'shopping travels' this morning and they've all said the same thing I said yesterday... when WA reopens on February 5th and Covid gets loose they will be leaving their homes for essential reasons only which doesn't bode well for the WA economy.

I feel sorry for all the small businesses which will probably (once again) bear the brunt of reduced income with people staying home because they don't want to get Covid.
