Yep, just saw that.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-27/nsw-truck-drivers-test-positive-for-covid...

Quote:
Two trucks drivers who travelled to Western Australian from New South Wales have tested positive to COVID-19 after going to several sites across WA.

The NSW Department of Health confirmed they had the virus after they had arrived in Perth.

The two men have been taken by ambulance to a hotel in Perth to self-isolate and quarantine.

More to come.

Hopefully its just another Covid 'scare' but with any luck the AFL Grand Final will be moved somewhere else instead of Optus Stadium here in Perth.

Yep.

Fingers crossed, this will stop the grand final being held here.

If these truck drivers end up causing another Covid outbreak and another lockdown then it will be time for some serious questions to be asked.

Like why on earth are truck drivers being allowed to just drive into WA from NSW which has been a Covid 'basket case' for over 2 months now without being tested before leaving NSW and again when they get here?

Oh...

Edit:

Bit late, eh?  Why were they allowed to leave NSW when they obviously had concerns about having Covid if they were tested?

Essential workers? What a load of BS. Covid doesn't know or care about the difference between "essential workers" and everyone else.

Planes... ships... trucks... its almost like "someone" wants to see a major Covid outbreak here in WA to divert attention away from the incompetence of Gladys Berejiklian (and Scott Morrison).

Scene: A Covid testing clinic somewhere in New South Wales, two interstate truck drivers enter.

Truck Drivers: "Hi, we've both had a cough and a bit of a runny nose for the past few days and we'd like to get tested for Covid"

Testing Official: "Come right this way, gentlemen, this will only take a few minutes"

5 minutes later...

Testing Official: "There you go, all done. Now, the results will take a day or two to come back but in the meantime make sure you isolate yourselves at home or some other suitable location"

Truck Drivers (winking to each other): "No wucking furries"

1 minute later:

Closing scene (at least for NSW) outside testing clinic:

Truck Drivers (in unison): Nah, stuff it... ROAD TRIP TO PERTH TIME!!!!!!!

You couldn't make this stuff up...

I take that back after reading the article, looks like they only stopped to refuel at 2 men and a dog towns and slept the night in their truck cab. WA may have dodged a bullet again.

Apparently interstate truck drivers are regularly tested for Covid from what I was reading a short time ago but obviously the system is flawed if this sort of thing happens.

A recent suggestion is for interstate trucks to change drivers at the border before entering WA but that would probably be difficult (and expensive) to implement.

But, not as expensive as the cost of lockdowns, I'm sure.

nah ... truck drivers are getting their results back in a matter of hours. Of course it 's only a preliminary result and their tests are sent away for further analysis which then takes longer. If preliminary comes back negative they're free to cross the border but must minimise contact by sleeping in cab and waiting in the cab whilst dock workers at the delivery point unload

Thanks, John.

Yep, hopefully things will be OK.

Mark McGowan (or more likely his 'social media team') is keeping everyone up to date here:

https://twitter.com/MarkMcGowanMP?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%...

Seems like these 2 truck drivers were doing the right things, at least - sleeping in their truck and wearing masks when outside. Good to see.

Trailer exchange parks—only the trailer goes interstate.

Yep, that would be best at this stage. Hope something like that can be organised soon.

The "heard it on Facebook" crowd are at it again but I have to wonder if there might at least be a grain of truth in this one seeing as the AFL Grand Final could be played here at Optus Stadium and I'm sure the State government and AFL wouldn't want a major Delta outbreak here right now which may cause the game to be cancelled or played with no crowd.

The other ongoing issue is the crisis condition of WA's hospitals and health system which would be overwhelmed with a Covid outbreak just like what's happening in NSW.

We'll see what happens next week.

Front page of today's West Australian.

Question: What "home essentials" does Harvey Norman sell? Last time I checked they didn't sell food, drink, toilet paper (lol), medicines or other medical products.

Anyone?

Anyone except aqua, that is... I already know what his answer will be... "a new big screen TV for Fat Steve and Fat Janeen to watch during Covid lockdowns". Tongue

Yes.

I guess that because they sell phones and tablets, which can be used as tools to keep in contact with family and friends, they are deemed "essential".

Anyway, I'm pissed off about the two truck drivers.

I assume they have the Goodrem variety of COVID.

So, why aren't we in lockdown?

Simple answer - the AFL has McGowan's balls in a vice.
