How will Delta get to WA?

My guess is the AFL Grand Final will be the culprit.

Apparently a bunch of AFL people were given travel exceptions and allowed into Perth this morning   Roll Eyes

“He will make sure that COVID won’t come to Perth and if it does, he will go straight back into lockdown. That’s exactly why we don’t have any cases.”

‘Hard to fault it’: Life inside fortress WA

It’s not even noon and Oliver Tallis is already run off his feet. Customers line up along his cafe counter and every table is busy with digital nomads and parents with young children.

In sun-kissed Scarborough, a coastal suburb of Perth, it feels like the weekend has come in early. Dozens of surfers crowd the beach. Couples walk the dog down the promenade and children shriek in the playgrounds.

The only reminders of the coronavirus pandemic are the mandatory check-in QR codes and bottles of unused hand sanitiser on the counter. There are no crowd restrictions, no two-square-metre rule, no face masks.

AFL grand final crowds could still be banned in WA if COVID outbreak occurs, emergency chief says

Quote:
WA will not hesitate to ban crowds from an AFL grand final in the event of a COVID scare, the state's emergency coordinator says.

But the AFL has all but ruled out allowing the game to go ahead in an empty stadium, preferring to postpone or relocate it.

Relocate it NOW would probably be the best option.

its 1941 and the japanese have just started to cross the kokoda track

the PM rings WA.

would you like to join us in confronting this threat. the rest of the nation recognises lives will be lost but we also recognise that a threat gets bigger the longer you ignore it.

the premier of WA responds  "no thanks, we think the best thing to do about the japanese is to hide in our bedrooms and , hopefully, they will never get here"

cowardly, unpatriotic, selfish ,

WA are not behaving as "real" australians and the other states will not forget this when future crisis arise (which they will), Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Yep, that would be my guess too.

Because, if there's one thing we've learnt over the past 18 months its how good some of these sports "stars" are at complying with Covid rules and quarantine, etc. Roll Eyes

Really? Are you sure about that? Did this also happen in the alternate reality of 'aquaworld'?

(Hint: When did the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor?)

Anyway... go away... the grown ups are trying to have a conversation here. Smiley

Western Australia provides update on possibility of hosting AFL grand final

Quote:
West Australian Police Commissioner Chris Dawson says the state will wait for the AFL to make a decision on whether the grand final can be held at the MCG before committing to host the 2021 decider in Perth.

On Wednesday, the AFL announced that Optus Stadium would be its first-choice venue if holding the game at the MCG proved unfeasible amid Melbourne’s Covid-19 outbreak.

However, as the league is yet to determine whether the game needs relocating from Melbourne, Western Australia has not signed off on welcoming the code for the decider on September 25.

“We are not yet at a point where we’ve made a decision,” Dawson told ABC Perth on Thursday.

“We have not made a decision because the AFL has not yet made a decision, they have to make a decision themselves.”

Dawson said the state would not host the game at the expense of the health and safety of West Australians.

At least we're smart enough not to have 'signed on the dotted line' just yet.

WA upset by potential change to Qantas international flights

Qantas has flagged it could make a major change when flights to the UK eventually resume, and WA Premier Mark McGowan is not happy.

Quote:
West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has hit back at a suggestion by Qantas that Perth may lose its status as a transit hub for flights to London due to WA’s notoriously strict border rules.

Qantas has unveiled its expectation for the return of overseas flights, which are slated for mid-December if Australia hits the 80 per cent vaccination rate needed to trigger the reopening of our international border.

The UK, Singapore, Japan, the US and Canada are among the destinations with high vaccination rates that Qantas expects to fly to first.

With flights to the UK expected to be especially popular, Qantas said it was considering using Darwin as a transit point for non-stop services to London, which before the pandemic, took off and landed at Perth.

Cry me a river, Alan Joyce.

After your little 'dummy spit' here and Jayne Hrdlicka from Virgin's stupid comment back in May its blatantly obvious what the #1 priority is for both of you (hint: it isn't the health and welfare of ordinary Australians).

You mean unarmed Australians just all didnt rush to Kokoda without any plan or SMEAC and full of good intentions about confronting the Japanese and hoping to win without any resources, weapons or plans? So why do you think thats what we should do with Covid? Our forebearers werent that stupid, why should we be?

Good call by Qantas. If travel opens between Australia and the UK, but not between WA and the rest of Australia then bypassing Perth is the obvious and sensible thing to do.

According to ABC

WA COVID scare as NSW truck drivers test positive while in community

Two trucks drivers who travelled to Western Australian from New South Wales have tested positive to COVID-19 after going to several sites across WA.

The NSW Department of Health confirmed they had the virus after they had arrived in Perth.

The two men have been taken by ambulance to a hotel in Perth to self-isolate and quarantine.
