And... here we go again.

Mark McGowan press conference: WA FIFO worker tests positive to COVID-19 but holds fire on new lockdown

Quote:
Mark McGowan has revealed a FIFO worker has “probably or possibly” been COVID positive in the community in recent weeks.

However, the Premier did not announce that Perth would be plunged into its fourth lockdown of the year.

Mr McGowan said the FIFO worker, a maintenance contractor in his 30s from Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine site, had returned a “very, very weak” positive test result.

“The suspicion is that he may well have been positive at some point in the community,” Mr McGowan said.

“We don’t know if he’s infectious because, to further complicated matters, this person had been COVID positive back in March and April of last year.”

The FIFO worker was at Perth Airport between 4am and 7am on July 20 at the same time as an infected man who flew from Queensland to WA after completing hotel quarantine.

Encouragingly, that man had the Alpha strain of the virus rather than the much faster spreading Delta variant.

Another lockdown for Perth by this weekend? Anyone? (My guess is YEP!!). Roll Eyes

WA and tassie risk being the 2 last places on earth to come to terms with covid.

nsw is on its way.
the marathon has commenced.
their hospitals are learning the processes that will be needed from no on to deal with covid.
how to tweak the system so you can cope, with staff who are not inappropriately quarantined.

qld is learning some lessons.
the 2 prestigous schools that were locked down along with their parents resulted in every paediatric cardiac surgeon in the state being forced to isolate (they must all have kids at these elite schools)
then a mad scramble had to be done to release one for emergency surgery.

eventually, people learn to be pragmatic, they learn to handle the novelty.

this is going to be an absolutley inescapable learning curve for every hospital and health system in australia.

so it good  that this is now occuring

and then people will eventually learn to just get on with living .

this will happen last in WA and tassie.

but it has to happen.

when qld,nsw victoria and SA are all opening up (say in december), they will have been blooded . they will be veterans.
they will feel confident they can handle it.

wa and tassie will be trembling virgins and then , whammo, they will get hit and struggle.

the struggle is inevitable.

might as well start learning the skills

by delaying we have inherited the delta which is more of a threat.

but delay is now rather silly.

WA and Tassie will be totally out of sync with the rest of the world.

my prediction is we will never again see the eastern states able to prevent some community spread

and that will become the reality for WA in november

which is exactly what was predicted, allow the virus to spread like you advocated and it mutates, which is exactly what it has done. Now you are admitting it is a concern, thats a step in the right direction, just listen to your intellectual superiors next time.

sweden did not face the delta variant in the first year as they learnt to tame the beast.

we will have to learn the lessons of personal responsibility whilst facing a much bigger challenge.

when something "comes at you in life", delay in facing it usually results in that thing getting stronger and you getting weaker

Anyway... I hope I can have my birthday party this Sunday before we're in another lockdown (my birthday is tomorrow but the party is on Sunday because one of the attendees is working tomorrow).

Rubbish, quite often it is appropriate to slow things down and make a plan on how to deal with that particular emergency. In fact anyone who has had training in emergency response has been taught exactly that, slow down, make a plan, appoint commander(s) etc.
