Just had to check if the mask wearing rules have changed here in Perth since yesterday (they haven't).

Walked up to the Kooyong Rd. shops and back (about 40 minutes in total) and in that time I saw 3 people on the street not wearing masks.

Didn't look like any of them qualified for a mask wearing exemption, especially the 30ish year old lady waiting at a bus stop. Hope she had one in her bag when the bus arrived or she'd be walking.

The lady living near us also saw several people not wearing masks when she was doing her shopping earlier.

Also saw 3 or 4 police cars driving around during my walk (may have been the same one or two). I wondered if they were checking to see if people were wearing masks because the only time we usually see (mostly hear) the police around our area is when they're chasing stolen cars or hoons. Roll Eyes

Raven was driving behind a police car, fourcops in it and not one wearing a mask.

You can only drive maskless with people from your own household. Good to see WA police upholding community safety.

I just went to Aldi.

Woman in front of me didn't sign in and didn't wash her hands.

Saw her later on in the store carrying a massive pack of toilet paper rolls.

FFS    Roll Eyes

Buggered if I can figure out the panic-buyers' reasoning.

Its happening here in Canberra and we aren't even in lockdown

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

I really don't get it.

I just can't understand what's going through their head.

Anyway, good news for WA today - no new cases overnight.

If that's repeated tomorrow our lockdown should end at midnight Friday/Saturday.

McGowan giving a press conference in 45 minutes (at 1.45pm).

Will Perth's lockdown be extended, or will it end at midnight tonight?

Lockdown finishes tonight at midnight.

Masks are mandatory for the next nine days, and there a few other restrictions.

We got off lightly.

Yep, got off lightly again but our "luck" will run out sooner or later.

I'm sitting here wondering who's on all the planes that have been going over us and landing at Perth Airport when the whole city is in lockdown? More Covid cases arriving?

They're using the shorter cross runway from 8am to about 3 or 4pm like they usually do every second Friday while they do maintenance on the main runway.

FIFO is still at a standstill today and even if it wasn't most of the planes are the large ones that wouldn't be used for FIFO anyway. Freight perhaps? Maybe a few but not all.

Speaking of planes, I hope amongst all the changes announced at the National Cabinet meeting today something is being done about this:

Pandemic no barrier to private jet arrivals in Australia

Quote:
The COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped the rich and famous from coming to Australia by private jet – at least 113 private international flights have landed since April last year, mostly from the United States.

Passengers on private jets include celebrities and other wealthy individuals, business executives on corporate trips and sporting teams such as the charter plane for contestants, families and staff in the World Surf League in March.

Quote:
But the busiest airport for arrivals was Bunbury Airport in Western Australia, with 22 flights - all from the US and all this month.

Too scared to land and be seen at Perth Airport because of the extremely likely and well deserved outrage, eh?

As we've said before (many times)... one rule for "them" and another for the rest of us.

And the 'hits' just keep on coming...

WA hospital emergency department potentially exposed to COVID-19 during transfer of sick seafarer

https://www.9news.com.au/national/wa-coronavirus-geraldton-hospital-staff-patien...

Quote:
Dozens of staff, patients and visitors at a regional Western Australian hospital are being directed to get tested for COVID-19 following a breach in infection protocols.
The breach occurred when a Singaporean seafarer was brought to the hospital after being taken off the international bulk carrier, MV Emerald Indah, on Sunday.
The infected crew member spent around three hours in the Emergency Department getting an X-ray and tests.

Well, at least Geraldton is 420km away from Perth so we should be OK here.

Oh, wait... there's more...

Quote:
They later tested positive for COVID-19 and was transferred to a Perth hospital on Monday morning.

Let's hope the protocols at the "Perth hospital" (Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital so I've read in another online article) are 'up to scratch'.

Been like that in Perth all week, Lols.

Rain, rain and more rain (and wind).

Especially last Sunday afternoon and again this afternoon (Friday). Just heard tonight that the worst is to come on Monday.

Our 4 day lockdown ended at 12:01am last Saturday with interim restrictions in place until last Tuesday and lesser restrictions from then until this coming Monday.

From last Saturday:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-03/businesses-stay-closed-as-perth-emerges-f...

So, should be back to 'normal' here in Perth from 12:01am Monday (until the next Covid outbreak, of course).

Oh crap!  Shocked and… does that mean we always get your weather 2-4 days later? Maybe I get the alum dingy and oars on the ready?

Geez… we are still fixing the mess here from that horrid once in a 100 years devastating so many trees and houses!

Our fences are still kaput… and a huge mess if fallen trees… too much work … I want to go somewhere calmer. Where’s such a place? Does it exist?

Man jailed for breaching WA COVID quarantine rules after having tradies work on his house

A Perth man who had tradespeople visit his home when he was meant to be quarantining has been sentenced to seven months in jail for breaching COVID rules.

The 53-year-old arrived at Perth Airport from Brisbane on June 27 and was told to self-isolate for 14 days due to a COVID outbreak in Queensland.

He chose to quarantine at his home in the beachside suburb of Scarborough.

Under the rules, he was not allowed to have visitors, but WA Police say he had tradespeople conduct work at his property.

He also had members of the public come to his house to buy items he listed online for sale.

Bugger.

I'm sitting here wondering if we'll be able to make it to a family and friends lunch at the Whale+Ale in Clarkson this coming Sunday before we have another lockdown here in Perth.

Just been organized this morning and I'll now be counting down the days (and checking WA's Covid news) until Sunday. We would have already been there by now if it wasn't for our latest lockdown and follow up restrictions.

Oh, and...

Seems like the "authorities" all around Australia need to be beaten over the head repeatedly with a big stick that has the words "HOME QUARANTINE DOESN'T WORK" written on it in large letters.

Yes.

Its a bit of a worrying situation. Especially when Mark McGowan was saying there's a possibility of a 'leak' of the virus into the community if crew members have to be taken off the ship to hospitals.

I'm sure he's just trying to be honest with us but it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence especially when you look at what's happening in the Eastern States right now.

I've noticed he's also limited the people who can reply to his two threads about this on his Twitter account which is something I've never seen him do before (yep, I know he doesn't post these and probably doesn't even read them, same as just about every other politician in the country).

I suppose I can't blame "him" seeing as there's a lot of crazies who usually reply to "his" tweets.

How long before our 'luck' runs out here in WA?

Take your pick:

1. COVID quarantine breacher Kyle Stephens sentenced after road trip through regional Western Australia

2. Two more crew members of cargo vessel docked off Perth test positive to COVID-19

3. Queensland man escapes COVID-19 hotel quarantine in Perth using bed sheet rope

4. Coronavirus crisis: Woman allegedly ditches hotel quarantine in Perth CBD

#4 is (once again) particularly worrying. How does someone just "leave" their hotel room and "dine and shop in the Perth CBD"?

Its a bit like the Muppet Show with this Covid crisis, isn't it?

Jesus, what an idiot this woman is.

Bunbury hairdresser Sweeney Todd Barber’s Shop asks vaccinated clients to cancel appointments

“For those clients I have still been seeing, I sincerely ask that if you have had the COVID vaccine could you please cancel your appointment as I am no longer comfortable taking on COVID vaccinated people,” the store’s owner Abi Locock wrote.
